🌍 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: BitDevs Gitega 📍 Location: Gitega, Burundi 🇧🇮 About: BitDevs Gitega is a Bitcoin-only technical community in Gitega for developers, educators, builders, students, and technically curious people who want to go beyond surface-level adoption and study how Bitcoin actually works. The group focuses on Bitcoin protocol development, the Lightning Network, privacy tools, free and open-source software, and practical use cases that fit Burundi’s local context. Key Objectives: 1. Deepen Bitcoin technical knowledge through regular Socratic Seminars, reading groups, workshops, and study sessions on protocol design, Lightning, privacy, and related tools. 2. Support local developers and builders as they learn to write, review, and ship Bitcoin software, including hands-on projects and open-source work relevant to Burundi. 3. Host consistent technical gatherings that give Gitega a reliable space for collaborative learning, critique, and discussion instead of one-off events. 4. Encourage free and open-source contribution by helping members find grants, bounties, fellowships, and ways to publish code, notes, and local-language learning resources. 5. Strengthen Burundi’s Bitcoin developer community by connecting Gitega talent to the wider African and global BitDevs network while keeping the focus technical, Bitcoin-only, and locally grounded. How is Bitcoin adoption progressing in Burundi? 🇧🇮 Bitcoin adoption in Burundi is steadily gaining momentum, driven by grassroots communities focused on education, technical development, financial inclusion, and building a circular Bitcoin economy. Some of the projects leading this growth: 🔷 BitDevs Gitega — A technical Bitcoin community in Gitega inspired by @BitDevsNYC. It hosts meetups, workshops, study groups, and Socratic seminars for developers, builders, educators, and Bitcoin enthusiasts. 🔷 BTC Shule — A leading initiative building Bitcoin circular economies in communities such as Gitega and Winteko. Through meetups, training, and hands-on education, BTC Shule empowers individuals with the knowledge and tools to use Bitcoin in everyday life. 🔷 Free Tech Institute (FREETI) — A non-profit think tank advancing digital freedom, entrepreneurship, and decentralized technologies through Bitcoin education, youth empowerment, policy advocacy, and community initiatives. 🔷 Rurbit — Building Bitcoin-powered financial infrastructure for rural and underserved communities, enabling greater financial sovereignty where traditional banking services are limited or unavailable. 🔗 Discover more projects driving Bitcoin adoption across Africa in our directory: image

☀️Stack Sats Saturday! The best time to stack sats was yesterday. The next best time is today.
🌍 Project Spotlight: ZazaPay 📍 Location: Ghana 🇬🇭 About: ZazaPay is a Ghana-built Bitcoin-to-fiat payment platform that makes Bitcoin usable in everyday African money systems. A sender pays in Bitcoin over the Lightning Network; the recipient does not need a wallet, an exchange account, or any Bitcoin knowledge. The platform went live in early 2026 after founder built it in public through the usual hard parts of payments: webhooks, failed transactions, liquidity, and deployment. Key Objectives: 1. Make Lightning payments usable in daily life by settling Bitcoin invoices in seconds and converting them immediately into spendable local currency. 2. Bridge Bitcoin with mobile money and bank rails so recipients get paid the way they already receive money, especially MTN Mobile Money and bank accounts. 3. Cut the friction in local and cross-border transfers across Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and additional African markets, without forcing the receiver onto digital assets. 4. Give merchants, freelancers, and families a practical off-ramp so global Bitcoin payments can become cedis, naira, or shillings without chargebacks or banking delays. 5. Widen financial access by letting people send value from anywhere and cash out into the payment systems already used across Africa. 📚 Readers’ Friday Book Club was a success! We discussed Chapter 14: “Centralizing Control” from Hijacking Bitcoin by Roger Ver and Steve Patterson. Here are our key takeaways: 1. Open source does not mean no influence. A few developers can still have a lot of influence over Bitcoin’s software. 2. Funding matters. We discussed who funds Bitcoin development and how funding can create incentives or conflicts of interest. 3. The blocksize debate was also about Bitcoin’s future. Different groups had different ideas about how Bitcoin should scale and what it should be used for. 4. Developers can affect what gets built. Changes to Bitcoin’s code can make some uses easier or harder. 5. Bitcoin has different groups with different roles. Developers write the code, node operators choose what software to run, miners process transactions, and users decide what Bitcoin they use. 6. Disagreement can be healthy. Bitcoin needs people who can question decisions and challenge ideas. Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared your thoughts, and joined the conversation tonight. 🧡 See you next Friday! ⚡ image View quoted note →
📚 Readers’ Friday Book Club! Tonight, we continue Chapter 14: “Centralizing Control” from Hijacking Bitcoin by Roger Ver and Steve Patterson. This chapter digs into some of Bitcoin’s most debated questions: Who controls Bitcoin’s development? How does developer funding influence an open-source project? Can a small group of developers gain too much influence over the protocol? We’ll discuss the Bitcoin Foundation, Blockstream, developer incentives, governance, blocksize, OP_RETURN, and the tension between maintaining Bitcoin’s decentralization and controlling how the protocol evolves. 🕕 6:00 PM UTC 💬 Discord: Bring your questions, disagreements and thoughts. ⚡ image
🌍 Project Spotlight: College BTC 📍 Location: Ghana 🇬🇭 About: College BTC is a student-focused Bitcoin initiative building campus-powered circular economies across Ghana. College BTC runs hands-on education so students can receive their first sats, set up wallets, understand self-custody, and spend Bitcoin at nearby shops. The work is modeled on circular-economy efforts such as Bitcoin Beach and Bitcoin Ekasi, adapted to Ghanaian campus life. Key Objectives: 1. Teach students how Bitcoin actually works through campus classes, masterclasses, and practical wallet onboarding. 2. Grow Bitcoin communities across Ghanaian universities, campus by campus. 3. Host workshops, meetups, and technical sessions that move students from basics to building. 4. Create real circular economies on and around campus by helping students earn, spend, and accept sats. 5. 🤯 Fun Fact Thursday! Did You Know? Provable destruction is rarer than "lost" coins Researchers have only been able to confirm a few thousand BTC as truly, provably destroyed through known burn addresses. Everything else people call "lost" is really just educated guessing. image
Watch Party Wednesday was a success! This week, we watched Warren Wheatley explore where Bitcoin and artificial intelligence are heading, and why Bitcoin is much bigger than its price. Key takeaways: 1. ₿ Bitcoin is not about price. Its deeper value lies in the financial infrastructure and new possibilities being built around it. 2. 🤖 Bitcoin and artificial intelligence are converging. As artificial intelligence agents become more autonomous, Bitcoin and Lightning can provide the open, programmable payment infrastructure they need. 3. 🏦 Bitcoin is becoming financial infrastructure. Banks, insurers and businesses are increasingly building systems around Bitcoin as collateral and a financial asset. 4. 💰 Bitcoin can unlock access to capital. Bitcoin-backed financing creates new possibilities for businesses, particularly in markets where access to affordable capital remains limited. 5. 🌍 The real opportunity is what gets built on Bitcoin. Payments, lending, artificial intelligence and financial infrastructure are opening entirely new use cases. The biggest takeaway? Bitcoin is far more than a number on a screen. It is infrastructure for a new financial and technological economy. Thanks to everyone who joined the discussion. 🧡 image View quoted note →
