Most of my coworkers side gigs/previous jobs/degrees are artists, djs, tech, & military veterans. The only ones who make it big in my industry are the truckers, and I’m not a trucker, nor do I really want to be one. I get everyone has free will, choices, etc. but based off the data, my job consists of 50% of slackers, & 50% of people that are stuck there due to the lack of social, & economic opportunity to get something better. Most of us that don’t want to tug it out anymore have signed up for plenty of jobs but we all end up being stuck at the same building. Sometimes in life it’s not a lack of trying, or motivation, it’s purely circumstances.

I don’t support the state but I think vaping/smoking should be banned in all honesty.

Here are the main tradeoffs I personally see as problems in Bitcoin. Not here to start an argument with anybody, just to explain to some of my Bitcoin friends in a technical way, why I don’t see the advantages of Bitcoin that they do. 1. Fees Yes, I know we’re not in 2024 anymore, and fees have come down from their historical all time highs, however having to experience that multiple times in the past leaves an unsavory experience. 2. Mempool Being stuck in Mempool for 30 minutes to an hour up to a day because you paid lower, or zero fees. (And yes I know RBF/Accelerator fixes this). 3. Lost Coins Without a stable supply of currency to circulate over time the currencies ability to be transacted with will shrink. 4. Lack of easy, & intuitive protocol privacy tools. While some tools like silent payments do exist, it’s a small solution compared to non-native third party tools like Coinjoins, Payjoins, whirlpools, etc. which often require high fees, & complex technical setups. 5. Lightning Yes, I know “Lightning fixes this” but the issue is lightning itself also has flaws. Self-Hosted lightning can lead to lost, or difficult to recover coins, failed routing payments, high fees, watchtowers, & many other issues, whereas centralized lightning does work almost seamlessly but you have to trust a third party not to rug you, spy on you, or deny you. While I understand everything in life has tradeoffs, I don’t think using the currency of the future should be costly, inefficient, and clanky. Bitcoin is an amazing proof of concept for tomorrow’s digital money but unless a major revamp happens, I don’t really see how over the long term it will be the most popular currency. This is of course ignoring the culture, & some other technical issues like decimalization which are more psychologically/cultural than technical even if has a technical element to it, etc.

If you want Bitcoin to win, you should also want Z-cash, & Monero to win too. Because all three tools when used in conjunction will increase Privacy.

Z-cash is Top-Down. Bitcoin is Middle-Out. Monero is Bottom-Up. Z-cash focuses primarily on regulatory compliance for their coins. Bitcoin has both a regulatory framework, and percent of non-compliant users. Monero is 100% non-compliant, & has to be spread through underground, parallel, or illicit economies.
