🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- Click on the link below to watch THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image “Space Oddity” live: This week in 1972, the David Bowie LP “Space Oddity” debuted on the UK Albums Chart at #31 (November 25) For a 1967 promotional film, Bowie wrote a new song, titled "Space Oddity", a tale about a fictional astronaut called Major Tom. The song earned Bowie a contract with Mercury Records, who agreed to finance production of a new album. Unfortunately to a lack of promotion, this second “David Bowie” album was also a commercial failure, despite earning some positive reviews from music critics. Despite Bowie being named 1969's Best Newcomer in a readers' poll for Music Now! and "Space Oddity" being named record of the year by Penny Valentine of Disc and Music Echo, David Bowie barely sold over 5,000 copies by March 1970. Following this 1972 reissue with RCA however, the album finally managed to chart, peaking at #21 in Australia, and #17 on the UK Albums Chart, remaining on the chart for 42 weeks. Early in 1973, the album peaked at #8 in Spain, #13 in Canada, and #16 on the US Billboard chart, remaining on the chart for 36 weeks. “Space Oddity” of course went on to be an enduring classic, and was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll". #davidbowie, #classicalbum, #60smusic, #spaceoddity, #60srock, #thisdayinrock, #rockmusic, #dailyrockhistory, #onthisday, #rockmusic, #rockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #thisdayinrock "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

Once a prehistoric trackway dating back to around 3000 BC, it later became part of the Roman Fosse Way before transforming into a major coaching road in the 19th century. By 1933, it was officially designated as the A303, connecting Basingstoke to Honiton through five counties. "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1976, the Sex Pistols released the single “Anarchy in the UK” (November 26) “Rrrrright!…..now!…..ahahahahahaha!….” Without question “Anarchy in the UK” was a song that shook up the music world, and rocked the social fabric of a nation. Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren called the song "a call to arms to the kids who believe that rock and roll was taken away from them. It's a statement of self rule, of ultimate independence." Originally issued in a plain black sleeve, the single was the only Sex Pistols recording released by EMI, and reached #38 on the UK Singles Chart before EMI dropped the group on 6 January 1977. “Anarchy in the U.K." is #56 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. #sexpistols, #punk, #punkrock, #punkrockmusic, #anarchyintheuk, #johnnyrotten, #sidvicious, #paulcook, #stevejones, #glenmatlock, #nevermindthebollocks, #rockandrollhalloffame "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image On this day in 1972, the Seals & Croft’s single “Summer Breeze” peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #6 (November 25) Seals & Croft’s’ first and biggest hit became one of the iconic songs of the early 70s era. The title track of the soft-rock duo’s fourth studio album peaked at #6 in Canada and the US, #14 in New Zealand, and #16 in Australia. In 1975, Jim Seals told Melody Maker that "Summer Breeze" was "A very simple song about a man coming home from work and hearing the dog barking and things like that, and to a lot of people the song's about looking for security. Our meaning goes further than that, for a prison can be the prison of self and a person can become insecure and paranoid if he doesn't have a direction in his personal life." Dash Crofts told Inside Musicast he made an impromptu decision to use a toy piano on the melody line because he happened to spot one in the studio (you can hear it sitting in behind the brass riff) He couldn't get a hold of anybody to give him permission to use the instrument, but it was already in tune and ready to go, so he couldn't resist borrowing it anyway. #sealsandcrofts, #summerbreeze, #70smusic, #softrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #jimseals, #dashcrofts, #easylistening, #yachtrock, #folkrock "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image On this day in 1972, the David Bowie single “The Jean Genie” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #90 (November 25) "The Jean Genie" originated on the Ziggy Stardust Tour as an impromptu jam they called "Bussin'", on the tour bus between the first two concerts in Cleveland and Memphis, when Mick Ronson began playing the Bo Diddley-inspired guitar riff on his new Les Paul. Bowie later in the 1990s described the song as "a smorgasbord of imagined America" and "my first New York song”, which he said he wrote in American actress, model and publicist Cyrinda Foxe’s apartment “for her amusement”. The subject matter was inspired in part by Bowie's friend Iggy Pop or, in Bowie's own words, "an Iggy-type character... it wasn't actually Iggy." The line "He's so simple minded, he can't drive his module" later gave the band Simple Minds their name. The song was recorded really quickly, as Def Leppard's Joe Elliott recalled: “I had a really great conversation with [bass player] Trevor Bolder. I said, 'You remember when you were doing The Jean Genie?' He said, 'No. We did it in an hour and a half.'" Some controversy arose in the UK when fellow RCA act the Sweet issued the song "Block Buster!", utilising a riff very similar to "The Jean Genie". The Sweet's single, written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, and recorded and released slightly later than Bowie's song, made #1 in the UK charts and #73 on the US charts while "The Jean Genie" was still in the UK Top 10. All parties maintained that the similarity was, in Nicky Chinn's words, "absolute coincidence". Chinn described a meeting about the issue, where he recalled that Bowie “looked at me completely deadpan and said 'C** t!’ And then he got up and gave me a hug and said, 'Congratulations...'" “Jean Genie” went all the way to #2 in the UK, #3 in Ireland, #5 in the Netherlands, #7 in Belgium, #8 in Spain, #18 in Australia, #22 in France, #71 in the US, and #75 in Canada. #davidbowie, #TheJeanGenie, #jeangenie, #ziggystardust, #classicrock, #mickronson, #70srock, #70smusic, #nickychinn, #iggypop, #trevorbolder, #classicrock, #rockmusic, #rockhistory, #thisdayinrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Life in a Shell explores the meaning of life and human existence, using the peacock’s symbolism and cultural references to address themes of beauty, decay, vanity, and the human connection to nature. At first glance, the installation’s bright colors and luxurious materials suggest superficiality. However, a closer look reveals human skulls in the shells and burned wood, symbols of decay. The skulls in the shells highlight the transient nature of life, while the burned wood emphasizes destruction. Herck’s work reflects the idea that life is filled with pride, and death, in particular, represents the ultimate futility—something central to Christian teachings. The contrast between beauty and decay serves as a reminder of the impermanence of all things. Through Life in a Shell, Herck invites reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the human obsession with appearance, power, and wealth. image Instagram.com/tom.herck www.tomherck.com "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image 1922 Archaeologists enter tomb of King Tut. HISTORY.com Editors Hulton Archive/Getty Images Published: February 09, 2010 Last Updated: May 28, 2025 In Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, British archaeologists Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon become the first souls to enter King Tutankhamen’s tomb in more than 3,000 years. Tutankhamen’s sealed burial chambers were miraculously intact, and inside was a collection of several thousand priceless objects, including a gold coffin containing the mummy of the teenage king. When Carter first arrived in Egypt, in 1891, most of the ancient Egyptian tombs had been discovered, and the majority of these had been hopelessly plundered by tomb raiders over the millennia. However, Carter was a brilliant excavator, and in the first years of the 20th century he discovered the tombs of Queen Hatshepsut and King Thutmose IV. Around 1907, he became associated with the Earl of Carnarvon, a collector of antiquities who commissioned Carter to supervise excavations in the Valley of the Kings. By 1913, most experts felt there was nothing in the Valley left to be uncovered. Carter, however, persisted in his efforts, convinced that the tomb of the little-known King Tutankhamen might still be found. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image “The Ballad of Lucy Jordan”: On this day in 1979, the Marianne Faithfull LP “Broken English” debuted on the UK Albums Chart at #65 (November 24) Marianne Faithfull’s seventh studio album marked a major comeback for Faithfull after years of suffering due to drug abuse, homelessness, and anorexia. “Broken English” is often regarded as her definitive recording and Faithfull herself has described it as her "masterpiece". Faithfull's only album since 1967, “Dreamin' My Dreams” (re-released two years later in 1978 as “Faithless”), had been in a relatively gentle folk or country and western style. “Broken English” was a radical departure, featuring a contemporary fusion of rock, punk, new wave and dance, with liberal use of synthesizers (courtesy of the great Steve Winwood). The last track, the six-and-a-half-minute "Why'd Ya Do It?", is a caustic, graphic rant of a woman reacting to her lover's infidelity. The lyrics began with the man's point of view, relating the bitter tirade of his cheated-on lover. It was set to a grinding tune inspired by Jimi Hendrix's recording of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower". Poet and writer Heathcote Williams had originally conceived the lyrics as a piece for Tina Turner to record, but Faithfull succeeded in convincing him that Turner would never record such a number. The song's profanity and explicit reference to oral sex (which earned the album a “Parental Advisory” label on some versions) caused some controversy… In Australia, Festival Records refused to release the album with "Why D'Ya Do It" intact. Festival had recently been through an expensive legal battle over Skyhooks albums that had been confiscated by the local vice squad on the basis of obscenity, and this is said to have motivated their refusal to release the song. Faithfull refused to have the album altered, but initial Australian pressings omitted "Why D'Ya Do It" anyway and instead included a 'bonus' 7" single of the extended version of "Broken English". The ban did not extend to import copies, and the song was also played unedited on the Government-funded Double Jay radio station and Brisbane community broadcaster 4ZZZ. It wasn't until the 1988 reissue that "Why D'Ya Do It" was finally included. On the charts “Broken English” went to #2 in New Zealand, #3 in France and Austria, #4 in Germany and Sweden, #27 in Australia, #28 in Canada, #37 in the Netherlands, #57 in the UK, and #82 in the US. It was her first album to chart in the United States since “Go Away from My World” (1965) . In 1981, Marianne Faithfull was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for this album.
