On this day in 1977, the Kiss LP “Kiss Alive II” debuted on the UK Albums Chart at #60 (December 17)
The band had released three albums (“Destroyer”, “Rock and Roll Over”, and “Love Gun”) since the previous live outing, the 1975 release “Alive!”, so there was heaps of new material to feature on this second live offering…
The album is one of the best selling in the Kiss discography, being the band's first to be certified double platinum.
Most of the live tracks on Alive II were recorded during the band's August 26–28 shows at the Forum while on their Love Gun Tour.
The double album peaked at #5 in Canada, #7 in the US, #10 in Japan, #13 in New Zealand, #17 in Australia, and #28 in Sweden.

In 1959, Volkswagen offered Beetle owners a truly unique accessory: a coffee machine built into the car.
Made by Hertella, the device allowed drivers to brew coffee, tea - and even chicken broth while on the road, using the cigarette lighter as its power source.
To prevent spills, the system included magnet-mounted cups designed to stay in place during driving.
Today, it's remembered as one of the rarest and most curious accessories ever offered by Volkswagen — an early and surprisingly inventive blend of practicality and in-car technology, long before such ideas became mainstream.

On this day in 1988, The La’s single “There She Goes” re-entered the UK Singles Chart at #87 (December 17)
The first version of the song, produced by Bob Andrews, was released by the La's in 1988, and again on 2 January 1989.
The 1989 release peaked at #59 on the UK Singles Chart.
Andrews' production of the song was remixed by Steve Lillywhite in 1990 for inclusion on their debut album “The La's”.
This remixed version was issued as a single on 22 October 1990 and reached #8 in the Netherlands, #13 on the UK Singles Chart, #40 in Belgium, and #49 in the US.
In May 2007, NME magazine placed "There She Goes" at #45 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever, and #13 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 40 greatest one-hit wonders.
It was listed at #22 on NME's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
Eric Clapton was also apparently a fan of the song, and in December 2021, Oasis's Noel Gallagher said it was his favourite song from the 1990s.
In 1999, Sixpence None the Richer had a hit with their cover version.

Raglan Castle 🏰
Raglan Castle is a late medieval castle located just north of the village of Raglan in the county of Monmouthshire in south east Wales.
The modern castle dates from between the 15th and early 17th centuries, when the successive ruling families of the Herberts and the Somersets created a luxurious, fortified castle, complete with a large hexagonal keep, known as the Great Tower or the Yellow Tower of Gwent.
Surrounded by parkland, water gardens and terraces, the castle was considered by contemporaries to be the equal of any other in England or Wales.
During the First English Civil War, Raglan was occupied by a Royalist garrison on behalf of Charles I but was taken by Parliamentarian forces in 1646 and its walls slighted, or deliberately put beyond military use.
After the Stuart Restoration in 1660, the Somersets declined to restore it and it became first a source of local building materials, then a romantic ruin. It is now a tourist attraction.

On this day in 1982, the Madness single “Our House” was at its peak of #5 on the UK Singles Chart (December 17)
Another track that brought the nutty Madness fairground sound a bit closer to the mainstream…
Frontman Suggs recalled to The Daily Mirror in 2009: "This was the first time we worked with the string arranger David Bedford.
It was clear to him what our records needed and he did great things for us.
The song from “The Rise & Fall” LP made it all the way to #1 in Canada and Sweden, #3 in Ireland, #4 in Switzerland and Norway, #5 in the UK, #7 on the US Billboard charts (their highest charting song), and #8 in Germany.
The song also won Best Pop Song at the 1983 Ivor Novello Awards.
In 1984, Madness made a guest appearance in the series 2 episode "Sick" of The Young Ones, performing "Our House".

Château de Sourniac, located in the Cantal department of south-central France, dates back to the 15th century, originally built as a medieval fortified residence.
It was constructed to assert control over the surrounding lands during a time of regional conflict and feudal power struggles.
In the 17th century, it was transformed into a more comfortable Renaissance-style château, while still preserving defensive elements like towers and a moat.
Today, Château de Sourniac stands as a charming and well-preserved piece of French rural history.

The 1953 Bic Pen-mobile.
The 1953 Bic Pen-mobile was a quirky, life-sized, pen-shaped promotional vehicle built on a Renault 2.5T chassis for the Tour de France, featuring giant illuminated pens along the sides and a transparent body with a functional tip, designed by Felix Aublet, showcasing the innovative Bic ballpoint pen through the era's unique advertising caravan.
Key Features & Design:
Base Vehicle: Built on a sheet metal and Plexiglas body, it was essentially a Renault 2.5T transformed.
Pen-like Appearance: The entire vehicle resembled a giant Bic Cristal pen, with the cap positioned at the back, exposing the functional tip for the driver.
Illuminated Details: Four pens on each side of the cabin and the horizontal "sword" pens were lit up, making it highly visible at night.
Functional Tip: The front tip allowed the driver to see the road, integrating the pen's function into the design.
Promotional Power: It was part of Bic's famous publicity caravan, alongside other branded vehicles, to promote their revolutionary disposable pens.
