Stainsby Girl
Chris Rea ‧ 1985
Some girls used to kiss and run
Never knew what they had done
Some girls always wasted time
Keep you hanging on the line
Some loved horses and always stayed at home
But the Stainsby girls loved the Rolling Stones
Now some had games that you had to play
Making rules along the way
Strange attractions newly found
Pride and passion kicked around
Some girls stole your heart
Like most girls do
But a Stainsby girls could break it in two
And I fell in love, I fell in love
I fell in love with a Stainsby girl
Deepest water Stainsby blue
Names and faces fade away
Memories here to stay
And I fell in love, I fell in love
I fell in love with a Stainsby girl

On this day in 1979, the Queen single “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #58 (December 22)
It went on to become Queen’s first US #1, spending four weeks in the top spot.
The shades-of-Elvis rockabilly style track from “The Game” LP shocked many with its departure from what people considered Queen to be, but hard core fans knew from previous albums that the band always liked to experiment with different musical styles and genres.
Freddie said, “‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love' took me five or ten minutes.
I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords.
It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework.
I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think.”
It also topped the Australian ARIA charts for seven consecutive weeks from 1 March to 12 April 1980, and went to #1 in Canada and the Netherlands, #2 in the UK and New Zealand, #3 in South Africa and Belgium, #5 in Switzerland, and #8 in Norway.
Billboard Magazine described Brian May's guitar playing as being "stunning in its simplicity”, with May wanting to emulate Elvis Presley's longtime guitarist James Burton, and using a Fender Esquire rather than his regular Red Special for the recording session.

Singer and songwriter Joe Cocker passed away on this day in 2014 (December 22)
He was a unique character with a raspy vocal delivery, and his signature quirky hand and arm movements.
Cocker’s first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom.
The song reached #1 in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows, including Woodstock and Isle of Wight in 1969, and was also known as the theme song for the TV series “The Wonder Years”.
His 1974 cover of "You Are So Beautiful" reached #5 in the US, and became his signature song.
Cocker's best selling song was the US #1 song "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award.
His 1986 single “You Can Leave Your Hat On” is considered a striptease anthem, and is still being used by strippers, after appearing in the movie “9½ Weeks”.
He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
Joe Cocker continued to perform and record until he died from lung cancer on 22 December 2014 in Crawford, Colorado, at the age of 70.
He was ranked #97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Behold the Tomb of Amyntas, carved into the cliffs of Fethiye, Turkey, around the 4th century BC. It stands as a testament to the Lycian civilization, a kingdom that once thrived in this region.
The tomb's facade mimics a classical temple, with imposing columns and intricate carvings. Weather and time have etched their marks, painting the stone with hues of age. Yet, it retains its grandeur, a silent sentinel guarding the stories of a forgotten era. Its very presence bridges the gap between our world and that of the Lycians.
It is a poignant paradox, the tomb: a monument to mortality, carved from the enduring stone of the earth. Nature embraces it, reclaiming what was once shaped by human hands. Still, in its weathered beauty, we find a lasting echo of human ambition, a whisper across the ages.

On this day in 1986, the Gary Moore single “Over the Hills and Far Away” debuted on the UK Singles Chart at #37 (December 20)
The stirring song from the brilliant Irish guitarist’s sixth solo album “Wild Frontier” features The Chieftains, who also appear in the video.
Moore performed the song with the legendary Irish band at the TV show celebrating their 25th anniversary in 1988.
The song tells the tale of a man wrongfully accused of armed robbery, who won't reveal his alibi is as it’s the wife of his best friend, with whom he was sleeping.
So he gets sent to prison "over the hills and far away, for ten long years", during which he receives love letters from the woman and "he swears he will return one day", so "back in his arms is where she'll be".
On the charts it went all the way to #1 in Norway and Finland, #6 in Ireland, #7 in Sweden, #20 in the UK, #22 in the Netherlands, #27 in Switzerland, #43 in New Zealand, and #94 in Australia.
Whilst not cracking the Hot 100, “Over the Hills and Far Away” peaked at #24 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.

Beach4Art is a family of four that creates beautiful beach art.

Painting was a popular and time-honored pastime among the upper classes in Egypt.
This paint box still preserves its original cakes of pigment: one cake each of red (red ocher), blue (Egyptian blue), green (a mixture of Egyptian blue, yellow ocher, and orpiment) and two of black (carbon black, from charcoal). It belonged to Amenemope, who was vizier, or prime minister, under Amenhotep II. Amenemope probably used his paint box for recreation.

This week in 1983, the Lionel Ritchie single “All Night Long (All Night)” went to #1 on the Australian charts (December 19)
One of the great party songs of the 80s…
The single from the “Can’t Slow Down” LP also reached #1 on three US Billboard charts (pop, R&B and adult contemporary), and went to #1 in Canada, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
Richie said to CNN that it took him about two months write this song.
He explained:
“I just couldn't find the ending - I couldn't find all night long to save my life. I had everything, the verses, the middle part, all the stuff.
I just did not have all night long.
It took me forever to find it. And finally one night, the heavens opened up and came through."
Richie told The Epoch Times that he got the vibe for this song from his vacations in the Caribbean.
Some of the multicultural words are authentic, but some Ritchie simply made up for the song..,.
Fun fact: a young Richard Marx is one of the backing vocalists on the song.
This was the first Lionel Richie video to make an impact on MTV, and was extremely popular back in the day.
