This week in 1964, The Beatles single “She Loves You” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #69 (January 25)
It went all the way to #1 in the US, the UK, Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Denmark and Norway, #2 in Ireland, #3 in Australia, #4 in Italy, and #7 in Germany.
It remains the band's best-selling single in the United Kingdom and the top-selling single of the 1960s in the UK by any artist.
Paul McCartney recalls them playing the finished song on acoustic guitars to his father Jim at home immediately after the song was completed: "We went into the living room and said 'Dad, listen to this. What do you think?
And he said 'That's very nice son, but there's enough of these Americanisms around.
Couldn't you sing 'She loves you, yes, yes, yes!'
At which point we collapsed in a heap and said 'No, Dad, you don't quite get it!'"
In November 2004, Rolling Stone ranked "She Loves You" #64 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time…

September 4, 1970, Jim Morrison, Max Fink, Frank Lisciandro and Babe Hill use the recess to venture off on a fishing trip in the Bahamas. Frank Lisciandro has his camera on hand and snaps a few photos of the group.
When people think of Jim Morrison, the legendary frontman of The Doors, the image that usually comes to mind is one of chaos and charisma - the leather-clad poet prowling the stage, spitting out verses like incantations, or the restless wanderer drifting through smoky bars and late-night streets in search of inspiration. His life, short as it was, seemed like a storm. Yet hidden within that storm were rare flashes of calm. One such instance, often overlooked in the mythology of Morrison, was the time he found solace in an unlikely place: a quiet fishing trip.
For Morrison, fishing was more than a pastime; it was a brief escape from the relentless noise of fame. The late 1960s had placed him under an unforgiving spotlight. Every lyric was analyzed, every performance scrutinized, every stumble reported. Even for a man who thrived on pushing boundaries, the intensity of public life could be suffocating. Fishing gave Morrison something the stage never could - silence.

This week in 1981, the Blondie single “Rapture” debuted on the UK Singles Chart at #14 (January 24)
The new wave/disco/rap mashup featuring “the man from Mars” written by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein climbed all the way to the top of the charts to become Blondie’s last #1 hit in the US.
The song from “Autoamerican” was also a Top 5 hit in Australia, the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland, and a Top 10 hit in South Africa, Norway and Belgium.
It all came about because Harry & Stein were friends with Bronx-based hip hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy, who would later go on to become the first host of the groundbreaking hip-hop music video show Yo! MTV Raps.
He took Blondie to rap events, which gave them the inspiration that led to “Rapture”.
Fab 5 Freddy features in the lyrics of “Rapture”, as does another pioneer of the genre, Grandmaster Fkash.
The song was the first video including rap ever broadcast on MTV, and was part of its first 90-video rotation.
It was also the first US #1 song to feature rap.

Working in a style inspired by the Old Masters, Ksenia Buridanova creates hauntingly beautiful oil paintings where humans and nature are inseparable.
Flowers bloom into faces, eyes emerge from petals, and figures feel suspended between dream and reality.

With more than 200 works collected across 15 countries, Buridanova’s paintings speak to something ancient and deeply human—the quiet bond between the natural world and our inner lives.
This is contemporary realism with soul, patience, and mystery at its core.

The Fruit of Precision: Why Future Surgeons "Operate" on Grapes !
In the high-stakes world of surgery, the difference between a successful procedure and a complication is often measured in millimeters. To master this level of finesse, medical students don't start on human patients—they often start with a snack. Practicing "grape surgery" has become a famous rite of passage for aspiring surgeons, particularly those entering fields like ophthalmology or plastic surgery where the tissue is incredibly thin and unforgiving.
The reason is simple: a grape’s skin is a near-perfect analog for delicate human tissue. It is thin, taut, and prone to tearing if too much pressure is applied. By learning to "suture" a cut on a grape without bruising the fruit or ripping the skin, students develop the "micro-dexterity" and tactile sensitivity required for the most complex operations.
