🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The difference between premium and mass-market butter comes down to water content and fermentation. High-quality butter starts with rich, high-fat cream, often cultured to develop a nutty aroma and a deep yellow hue. Because it contains less moisture, it foams gently and browns evenly in a pan, making it the essential choice for serious cooking. In contrast, low-quality butter is a mass-produced product often stretched with whey, water, or additives. This chemical makeup causes it to soften too quickly and "sputter" violently when heated as the excess water evaporates. While the top-tier version relies on pure cream and sea salt, the industrial alternative offers a flatter flavor and a watery texture that disappears into the background "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- Marine Life in The Philippines & S.E. Asia. and the World. Post #214: Mandarinfish image Don’t mess with this fish! The mandarinfish (Synchiropus splendidus) is one of the only species known to produce its own true blue coloring. Thanks to cyanophores, light-reflecting cells that are blue in pigment, this fish is clad in one of the animal kingdom’s rarest hues. But did you know that this striking shade is actually a warning to potential foes? While many species of fish have scales for self-defense, the mandarinfish has none. Instead, it produces a smelly, foul-tasting toxic mucus that makes it unappetizing to predators! Typically measuring about 3 in (8 cm) in length, this small fish inhabits coral reefs of the Western Pacific Ocean. It was Quatro's only US Top 40 hit and Norman's lone US charting effort apart from his time with the band Smokie (where they charted three times while Norman was still a member). #suziquatro, #ChrisNorman, #stumblinin, #70smusic, #dailyrockhistory, #duet, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #SuziQ, #mikechapman "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image This week in 1976, the 10cc single “Art For Art’s Sake” debuted on the Australian charts at #100 (January 26) In The Daily Mail, May 27, 2007, co-songwriter and 10cc bass player and co-lead singer Graham Gouldman said: "'Art For Art's Sake' was a wry comment on the values of the music business, which became ever more apparent as our career developed." The song started from something that Gouldman's father, Hymie Gouldman, often used to say: “Art for art's sake, money for God's sake, okay". The follow-up single to “I’m Not In Love” went to #4 in Ireland, #5 in the UK, and #6 in New Zealand. But it was way less successful elsewhere, only reaching #61 in Australia, #69 in Canada, and #83 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “Art for Art’s Sake” was the first single from the album “How Dare You!”, which was the last 10cc album with the original line-up of Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme (the latter two departed shortly thereafter to form Godley & Creme), until the four reformed (albeit briefly) for the 1992 album “…Meanwhile”. #10cc, #artforartssake, #lolcreme, #grahamgouldman, #70smusic, #howdareyou, #dailyrockhistory, #kevingodley, #ericstewart, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1980, AC/DC performed their last concert with Bon Scott, at Southampton's Gaumont Club in the UK (January 27) It was actually a make-up gig, which was re-scheduled as the last stop on the tour to promote their Highway To Hell album, originally scheduled to take place on 18th December 1979. Bon Scott did have one more 'performance' with the band before he passed away, appearing with them on Top Of The Pops on 7th February 1980. Of course less than two weeks later, on 19 February 1980, Scott went on a drinking binge in a London pub that caused him to lose consciousness, so a friend let him sleep it off in the back of his Renault 5 overnight. The next morning, Bon Scott was found unresponsive and rushed to King's College Hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival. The coroner ruled that pulmonary aspiration of vomit was the cause of Scott's death, but the official cause was listed on the death certificate as "acute alcoholic poisoning" and classified as "death by misadventure". It’s history now that AC/DC's seventh studio album “Back In Black” was released five months later as a dedication and tribute to Scott, with Brian Johnson out front. The record went on to become the second best-selling album in music history… The setlist from Bon’s last show was: Live Wire Shot Down in Flames Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be Sin City Problem Child Bad Boy Boogie The Jack Highway to Hell Girls Got Rhythm High Voltage Whole Lotta Rosie Rocker Encore: T.N.T. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1973, the Stevie Wonder single “Superstition” went to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (January 27) The lead single from his fifteenth studio album, “Talking Book” was Stevie Wonder’s second US #1, coming 10 years after his first US #1 “Fingertips” in 1963. Stevie Wonder invited guitar legend Jeff Beck to be involved in the “Talking Book” sessions, and it was Beck that came up with the opening drum beat. Wonder told Beck to keep playing while he improvised over the top of it. He improvised most of the song, including the riff, on the spot. Beck and Wonder created a rough demo for the song that day. After finishing the song, Wonder decided that he would allow Beck to record "Superstition" as part of their agreement. Originally, the plan was for Beck to release his version of the song first, with his newly formed power trio Beck, Bogert & Appice, however due to the combination of the trio's debut album getting delayed and Motown CEO Berry Gordy's prediction that "Superstition" would be a huge hit and greatly increase the sales of “Talking Book”, Wonder released the song as the “Talking Book” lead single months ahead of Beck's version, the latter being issued in March 1973 on the Beck, Bogert & Appice album. In addition to the song going to #1 in the US, it also went to #6 in Canada, #10 in the Netherlands, and #11 in the UK, and became one of his most popular hits, retaining its popularity over the decades thanks to that recognizable riff and classy brass runs. At the 16th Grammy Awards, “Superstition” won Stevie Wonder two Grammys for writing (Best Rhythm & Blues Song) and performing (Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male). In 2021 Rolling Stone ranked the song #12 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. #steviewonder, #superstition, #talkingbook, #grammyawardwinner, #70sMusic, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1968, the Otis Redding single “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #67 (January 27) The song co-written by Redding and Steve Cropper from the LP “The Dock of the Bay” went on to peak at #3 in the UK, New Zealand, and South Africa, #7 in Canada, #13 in Ireland, and #29 in Italy. It also became the first ever posthumous single to top the charts in the US, after Redding tragically passed away in a plane crash on December 10, 1967. It was recorded by Redding twice in 1967, including once just three days before his death. The album “The Dock of the Bay” was also the first posthumous album to reach #1 on the UK Albums Chart. Redding started writing the lyrics to the song in August 1967, while sitting on a rented houseboat in Sausalito, California, then later in Memphis completed the music and the rest of the wistful lyrics with guitarist Steve Cropper. In a September 1990 interview on NPR's Fresh Air, Cropper recalled: “Otis was one of those [guys] who had 100 ideas…. He had been in San Francisco doing The Fillmore. And the story that I got, he was renting a boathouse, or stayed at a boathouse or something, and that's where he got the idea of the ships coming in the bay there. And that's about all he had: "I watch the ships come in and I watch them roll away again." .If you listen to the songs I collaborated on with Otis, most of the lyrics are about him. [...] Otis didn't really write about himself but I did. ……..’Dock of the Bay’ was exactly that: ‘I left my home in Georgia, headed for the Frisco Bay’ was all about him going out to San Francisco to perform.” After Redding's death, Cropper mixed "Dock of the Bay" at Stax Studios. He added the sound of seagulls and waves crashing to the background, as Redding had requested, recalling the sounds he heard when he was staying on the houseboat. Booker T Jones from Booker T & the MGs plays keyboards on the track. When Otis was still alive, there were discussions of contracting the Stax gospel act the Staple Singers to record backing vocals, but this was never carried out. He considered the song unfinished, and planned to record what he considered a final version, but never got the chance… It didn’t matter; the song became an enduring, timeless classic. In 1969, Otis Redding’s most successful song won two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. In 1998 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1999, BMI named the song as the sixth-most performed song of the twentieth century, with about six million performances. "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" was ranked #26 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, the second-highest of four Redding songs on the list, after "Respect" (Aretha Franklin’s version). There have been many cover versions of this classic released by prominent artists, including Michael Bolton, Glen Campbell, and Sammy Hagar. Hagar’s version version features the song's co-writer, Steve Cropper, on guitar and members of the band Boston—Brad Delp, Sib Hashian and Barry Goudreau—on backup vocals. The Reddings, who included two of Otis Redding's sons, released a version which charted for nine weeks starting in June 1982, peaking at #55. #dockofthebay, #otisredding, #stevecropper #60smusic, #grammyawardwinner, #grammyhalloffame, #bookertjones, #dailyrockhistory, #sanfranciscobay, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image "To write is to forget. Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life. Music soothes, the visual arts exhilarates, the performing arts (such as acting and dance) entertain. Literature, however, retreats from life by turning in into slumber. The other arts make no such retreat— some because they use visible and hence vital formulas, others because they live from human life itself. This isn't the case with literature. Literature simulates life. A novel is a story of what never was, a play is a novel without narration. A poem is the expression of ideas or feelings a language no one uses, because no one talks in verse." ~Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Art Himsl's 1937 Chris Craft Zeppelin Roadliner Motorhome Is One Of A Kind, aeronautically inspired motorhome. image It looks more like a child of the fifties, but was born in 1937. Originally built as a prototype by a boat mechanic at a San Francisco Chris-Craft and intended to be a manufactured house car, but production was halted by World War II. image It was designed with a lightweight aluminum skeleton covered in "Grade A" linen aircraft fabric, resembling early airplanes and the Goodyear blimp. image The fabric was stretched over the entire body except for metal around the windows. The original power plant was a Plymouth six-cylinder engine rated at 82 hp. image The vehicle was registered as a Plymouth House Car and was first put into service in 1942. Today, Zeppelin is owned by Art Himsl, a famous custom car builder. Art Himsl and a good friend, Ed Green, saw the rear end sticking out of a barn in Napa Valley, California, in 1968. image At first, the car was used as an office in its current state. In 1999, a comprehensive renovation was carried out. image Today the immaculately presented Zeppelin boasts a 350cubic inch V8 Chevy engine, push button automatic transmission, air-ride suspension, a refrigerator, microwave oven and front and rear air bags. image The motorhome has two doors, one on each side, behind the driver and front passenger seats. The interior has two leather bench seats, one on each side of the vehicle. The table drops down to access a queen bed. Art Himsl also installed a rear-view camera, and even a little propeller on the back. There are no bathroom facilities. image The outer shell – originally a mixture of steel and fabric – is in “Stitz Poly-Fiber”, a plastic material, effectively painted by Himsl himself. The primary color is a candy apple red with a cream top and wide accent panel covering the midsection of the body. In that midsection, outlined in wide orange and black paint is the answer to a viewer’s first two questions: who owns it and what is it? image It modestly states in bold, but muted lettering “HIMSL ZEPPELIN 1937 ROADLINER.” image The wheel arches are not original, the car originally lacked front wheel arches. In 2002 the renovation was completed and the car was renamed “1937 Himsl Zeppelin Roadliner”. image It is considered one of the most eccentric and well-known custom motorhomes ever created, functioning as a true piece of rolling history.
