The island of Loreto
The island of Loreto is located in Lake Iseo, north of Montisola, and is a private property.
The island became after 1889 the property of the Duchess Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa, and after her death, with an act dated 9 October 1900, it was sold to comm. Vincenzo Richeri, vessel captain in the Regia Marina.

On this day in 1971, the George Harrison single “My Sweet Lord” went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart (January 30)
The song from his triple album “All Things Must Pass” was Harrison's first as a solo artist, and topped charts worldwide; it was the biggest-selling single of 1971 in the UK.
In the US and the UK, the song was the first #1 single by an ex-Beatle.
“My Sweet Lord” was a smash hit all around the world, going all the way to #1 in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Ireland, Mexico, and New Zealand.
Interestingly, Harrison didn’t want to release a single from “All Things Must Pass”, because he thought it would detract from the impact of the album, but Apple insisted, and he reluctantly agreed…
The recording features producer Phil Spector's famous “Wall of Sound” treatment and also marked the arrival of Harrison's slide guitar technique, which one biographer described as "musically as distinctive a signature as the mark of Zorro".
Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Procol Harum’s Gary Brooker, Bobby Whitlock from Derek & the Dominos, and members of Badfinger are among the other musicians on the recording.
Later in the 1970s, "My Sweet Lord" was at the centre of a heavily publicised copyright infringement suit due to its alleged similarity to the Ronnie Mack song "He's So Fine", a 1963 hit for the New York girl group the Chiffons.
In 1976, a judge ruled that Harrison did not deliberately copy the song, but was found to have subconsciously plagiarised it, a verdict that reverberated throughout the music industry.
The litigation continued into the 1990s with regards to the complicated final points of the settlement, making it one of the longest-running legal battles ever.
It finally completely done in 1998, with George Harrison ending up with the rights to both songs in the US and the UK.
Harrison confessed he was gun-shy to write any new material for a considerable amount of time after the initial legal action in the 70s.
“My Sweet Lord” was ranked #454 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, and went to #1 again in the UK in 2002 after George Harrison’s death.

The Stunning Rock Village of Portugal :
Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal. The village is named the ‘most Portuguese village of Portugal’. It was awarded this official title because the village has preserved its special medieval character and the culture of Portugal.
The village is collection of ruins, village of Idanha-a-Velha has some of country's most important archaeological sites.
It stands in a place where a Roman city once lay, capital of Civitas Igaeditanorum (1st Century BC) and later episcopal seat during occupation by Suebi and Visigoths. It was occupied by Muslims in 8th Century CE, and taken back by Christians in 12th Century CE.
It was donated to Knights Templar in 13th Century and still has traces of different ages that attest to permanent occupation by various civilisations.
This medieval village and the accompanying views are what attract visitors from all over Portugal. Half a day, or even a whole day, is perfect for exploring the meandering cobbled streets and marveling at the weird and wonderful rock houses. Some of the houses even appear to grow out the side or the bottom of the boulders.
The incredible fortress of Monsanto sits at the highest point above the village. The hike is steep but short and well worth it for the breathtaking views from the top, as well as seeing the old walls of the castle and the ruins of the Roman Chapel.
This is an absolute must-see while in Monsanto rock village, Portugal.

On this day in 1978, the Abba single “Take a Chance on Me” debuted on the Australian charts at #55 (January 30)
The song from the LP “Abba: The Album” was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and was one of ABBA's first singles in which their manager Stig Anderson did not assist with writing the lyrics.
It was Abba’s seventh UK #1 (and third consecutive chart-topper in the country after "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "The Name of the Game"), and their final #1 in the UK of the 1970s, giving the group the distinction of being the act with the most chart-topping singles of the 1970s in the UK.

On this day in 1970, the Badfinger single “Come And Get It” peaked on the UK Singles Chart at #4 (January 31)
Paul McCartney wrote the song, and recorded a solo demo on 24 July 1969, after arriving early for a Beatles recording session for their “Abbey Road” album, singing the double-tracked lead vocal and playing all the instruments.
McCartney recorded it because he was asked to do three songs for the soundtrack for the film The Magic Christian, but ended up writing just the one song for the project.
It didn’t end up on “Abbey Road” either, but became the first single released under the Badfinger name, after the band had released a few singles and an album under the name The Iveys.
The Iveys were a successful live act on the London circuit, and were signed to the Apple label after The Beatles heard a demo tape and were suitably impressed.
McCartney encouraged the band to do “Come And Get It”, offering to produce it and two other Iveys' originals ("Carry on Till Tomorrow" and "Rock of All Ages”), to fulfill his three song commission for The Magic Christian movie.
In The Beatles Anthology book, McCartney explained that Badfinger wanted to do the song more in their own style, but he insisted they do it the same as on his demo, because he knew it would be a hit single if done his way:
"They were a young band ... they said, 'We want to do it a bit different, wanna get our own thing in'.
I said 'No, this has gotta be exactly like this [McCartney's demo], 'cos this is the hit.'"
And as usual, Paul was right on the money, with “Come And Get It” going all the way to #1 in New Zealand, #4 in the UK and Canada, #5 in Ireland, #7 in the US, and #14 in Australia.
Pending the release of "Come and Get It", the band and Apple agreed that the band's name was too trite for the prevailing music scene, plus the Iveys were sometimes confused with the Ivy League.
So Apple Corps' executive Neil Aspinall suggested "Badfinger", in reference to "Bad Finger Boogie", an early working title of Lennon–McCartney's "With a Little Help from My Friends", (as John Lennon had hurt his forefinger on a piano and was using only one finger).
The band agreed.
“Come And Get It” became the opening theme for the film The Magic Christian, starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, and was also repeated during the movie's closing credits, with an additional string arrangement added.
It was also released on Badfinger’s LP “Magic Christian Music”, which was their first album released as Badfinger.
Though McCartney was the only Beatle performing on his original demo version, it was officially released as a Beatles song on the 1996 “Anthology 3” compilation album and the 2019 “Abbey Road” re-release, having already appeared on various bootlegs.

The Portuguese Man o’ War
(Physalia physalis) is well-known for its painful sting - even after having washed ashore.
But what isn't as well-known is the fact that the Portuguese Man o’ War is not actually a jellyfish - it's a species of siphonophore! Siphonophores, while related to jellyfish, are made up of colonies of zooids (essentially clones) that have different forms and functions but all work together.

This week in 1958, the Elvis Presley single “Jailhouse Rock” went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart (January 30)
It was the first ever single to debut at #1, and also hit the top spot in the US and South Africa m, peaking at #3 in Australia.

Shifty Henry was a well-known LA musician, not a criminal.
The Purple Gang was a real mob.
Sad Sack was a U.S. Army nickname in World War II for a loser, which was also the name of a popular comic strip and comic book character.
One of Elvis’ signature songs, the clip from the movie of the same name where he sang the song is considered by some historians to be the first ever rock video.
Rolling Stone magazine included "Jailhouse Rock" at #67 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and it was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
On November 27, 2016, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
