🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1984, the John Mellencamp single “Authority Song” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #69 (March 17) This is a simple classic rocker, with a great singalong chorus… The song was released from his seventh studio album “Uh-Huh”, which was released as he was still transitioning away from his original stage name of Johnny Cougar, and was the first album on which he used his real last name. Unlike Bono asserting "This song is not a rebel song” on U2’s “renditions of “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, Mellencamp was 100% that “The Authority Song” WAS a rebel song! He called it “our new version of 'I Fought The Law.'" For Mellencamp, “Authority Song” performed relatively modestly on the charts, peaking at #15 in the US, #41 in Canada, and #93 in Australia. #johnmellencamp, #johncougarmellencamp, #authoritysong, #uhhuh, #80smusic, #80srock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image 📍 Seychelles Beach, Ikaria, Greece 🇬🇷 Ikaria is one of the world's five "Blue Zones," places where people regularly live past 100. Locals say it's the slow pace, the wine, and the afternoon naps 🧓. The island barely appears in travel guides. The beach called Seychelles got its nickname because the water looks like it belongs in the Indian Ocean, not the Aegean 💙. You reach it by a short rocky path, and most days you'll share it with just a handful of people. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The façade of Basilica di Santa Croce in Lecce is one of the most elaborate Baroque façades in southern Italy and a defining statement of Leccese Baroque. It was completed mainly in the first half of the 17th century, with the upper section finalized under Giuseppe Zimbalo. Architecturally, the façade is organized in two horizontal registers. • The lower level is relatively ordered, structured by engaged columns and niches containing statues of saints, establishing a classical framework. • The upper level becomes dramatically more expressive, culminating in a vast rose window (early 17th century), richly framed with vegetal and figurative carving. A distinctive feature is the balustrade supported by sculpted figures and animals—including lions, griffins, dragons, and grotesque creatures. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image A girl climbed a tree to look in the window at her grandmother's funeral, and her brothers looked up at the muddy bottoms of her drawers. William Faulkner saw that image and couldn't let it go. He built an entire novel around it, then spent the rest of his life calling it his "most splendid failure." The Compson family is falling apart in Jefferson, Mississippi. The four sections of the novel are four attempts to tell their story, each from a different angle, and none of them quite enough. The first is Benjy, the youngest brother, mentally disabled, who can't tell the past from the present. For him, Caddy still smells like trees, still holds him when he's scared, still exists even though she's been gone for seventeen years. The golfers on the land that used to belong to the family shout "caddie" and he hears her name, and the whole novel breaks open. The second section is Quentin, the oldest, at Harvard on the day he kills himself. He's obsessed with Caddy's virginity, with honor, with the idea that his sister's body somehow carries the weight of the entire South. He tries to confess to incest he didn't commit, fights her lovers, and finally walks into the Charles River with flatirons in his pockets. The third is Jason, the middle brother, bitter and scheming. He steals the money Caddy sends for her daughter, torments everyone in the house, and chases the girl when she finally runs off with a carnival worker. The fourth is Dilsey, the Black servant who holds the ruins together. She takes Benjy to church on Easter Sunday, listens to a preacher talk about redemption, and says the only true thing in the whole book: "I've seed de first en de last... I seed de beginnin, en now I sees de endin." The title comes from Macbeth: life as "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." The idiot is Benjy. The tale is everything. And you finish the book wondering if it signifies nothing, or if Dilsey's faith at the end is enough to mean something after all. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The Colossus of Rhodes was a colossal statute of the Greek sun God Helios in the ancient Greek City of Rhodes and was erected to thank the gods for the victory after a year-long siege of the island by the Macedonian military leader Demetrius Poliocetes and his army in 205 BC. The sculptor Chares of Lindos was contracted with the enormous masterpiece that took 12 years to make. The exterior of the statue was made from bronze while inside an iron framework gave the figure shape. The colossus was weighted with stones and erected on a marble pedestal. The final masterpiece towered 33 meters above the city. In 226 BC, only 56 years after being erected, a devastating earthquake toppled the statute into the sea breaking it at the knees. The pieces then lay for 800 years scattered around the harbour as the people of Rhodes consulted an oracle who advised against restoring it. When it fell transcripts recorded that it was so big that men couldn’t get their arms around the statues thumb. It wasn’t until 654 AC when Arabian forces invaded Rhodes, that the pieces were sold and transported on 900 camels back to the east to be melted down and reused. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image "The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion." Camus knew about unfree worlds. He grew up in colonial Algeria, fought in the French Resistance, watched ideologies crush people on both sides. He didn't believe in violent revolution or waiting for the system to change. He believed in refusing to be broken from the inside. Living freely loving, creating, choosing joy was his form of resistance. Not because it changes the world, but because it proves the world hasn't won. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image This striking statue represents the powerful pharaoh Ramses II, one of the most influential rulers of ancient Egypt. Carved from dark stone and seated in a commanding yet composed posture, the sculpture reflects the grandeur and authority associated with Egyptian kingship during the New Kingdom period. Ramses II, who ruled from around 1279 to 1213 BCE, was known for his monumental building projects, military campaigns, and the many statues created in his honor across temples and cities throughout Ancient Egypt. The tall crown he wears symbolizes divine power and royal legitimacy, while the calm facial expression conveys the timeless image Egyptian artists often sought to portray—an eternal, god-like ruler beyond the limits of time. Today, statues like this are displayed in major museums such as the Louvre Museum in Paris, where they continue to fascinate visitors from around the world. These monumental sculptures were not merely decorative; they were powerful political and spiritual symbols meant to reinforce the pharaoh’s connection with the gods and his role as guardian of order, known in Egyptian belief as Ma’at. More than 3,000 years after it was created, the statue still radiates authority and mystery, offering a glimpse into the extraordinary artistry and enduring legacy of one of history’s greatest ancient civilizations. 🏺✨ "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
