Relief of Immortals, the Apadana, Persepolis, Iran.
The Immortals were an elite royal guard within the Achaemenid Persian army.
Only ethnic Persians or Medeans could be members of the unit which, according to the Greek historian Herodotus, always numbered precisely 10,000 men.
The carvings are located on the eastern staircase of the Apadana Palace in Persepolis, Iran.
The Immortals fought against the Greeks at the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae, and were defeated by Alexander the Great at the Battle of Issus in 333 BC.

These are two images of a Bill Thomas Cheetah, a rare American sports car from 1964 that was designed to compete with the Shelby Cobra.
The car is famous for its extremely short wheelbase and the fact that the engine is placed far back, causing the exhaust pipes to run alongside the passenger compartment.
Originally, only about 15 to 29 examples were built, making them highly sought after by collectors today.
Due to their rarity and reputation as the "Cobra Killer," modern replicas of the Cheetah are sometimes referred to as "clone" or "crossbreed" models.

Don’t worry folks, this dragonfly is licensed to operate heavy machinery.
Meet the swamp darner, one of the largest dragonfly species in North America. These aerial acrobats can be found across much of the eastern United States and parts of the Midwest, patrolling wetlands, ponds, and marshes throughout the summer.
If you’re out exploring public lands in June and July, keep an eye out. Seeing one buzz past you feels like spotting a tiny dragon on patrol.

Throwback to 1974, when WHOI marine superintendent Dick Edwards was enlisted as an explosives expert on the set of JAWS!
💣While filming on nearby Martha’s Vineyard, the film producers came to Woods Hole for help with their blasting permit. Thanks to his time with the US Navy and expertise in seismic research at WHOI, Edwards knew exactly how to plant dynamite in the mechanical shark prop, creating that unforgettable explosive scene.

Important Educational Theorists
Many influential theorists have shaped educational psychology and their ideas continue to improve teaching and learning.
As children grow up, their thinking develops in different stages, explained Jean Piaget. Lev Vygotsky created the ZPD ( Zone of Proximal Development ).
The ZPD stresses that students can do more when guided by teachers or more knowledgeable peers .
Jerome Bruner suggested Discovery Learning where the students are encouraged to explore and discover solutions on their own. Operant Conditioning was developed by B.F. Skinner and illustrated how behaviour is influenced by rewards and punishments.
Ivan Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning provided evidence that learning could take place by creating associations between stimuli. Edward Thorndike’s Trial and Error Learning said that learners can learn by practicing different ways to do things until they find the right way.
Many other educational theorists contributed a great deal to modern education too. According to Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, people learn by observing and imitating others.
Bloom's Taxonomy is a framework created by Benjamin Bloom that classifies learning from simple knowledge to higher-order thinking skills like analysis and evaluation. Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory suggests that people have different kinds of intelligence such as linguistic, logical, musical and interpersonal.
John Dewey was a strong believer in Learning through Doing. He thought that students learn best through hands-on experiences, active participation and solving real-life problems.
Taken together, these theories offer useful guidance for developing effective and engaging learning environments.
