Carl Critchlow is a British illustrator and comic artist known for his distinctive work in fantasy, science fiction and comics.

He became widely recognized for creating Thrud the Barbarian for White Dwarf,

......and later worked extensively for 2000 AD on characters such as Judge Dredd, as well as on projects for DC Comics, Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering 🎨

His work with Batman includes Batman/Judge Dredd: The Ultimate Riddle (1995), which he largely illustrated and painted, bringing his muscular, highly detailed style to the Dark Knight.

He also created notable Joker artwork, including a Batman Master Series card illustration in 1996, showcasing his more expressive and sinister interpretation of the character.

Josh Kirby (1928–2001)

...was a British illustrator born in Liverpool and one of the most important figures in 20th-century science fiction and fantasy illustration.

He began his career working in advertising and film posters before moving into book cover illustration.

Although he created hundreds of works for the genre, he became especially renowned for his iconic covers for Discworld, Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series, for which he created 26 paintings.

Pratchett summed up his importance perfectly with the words: “I only invented the Discworld, Josh created it.” 🎨

His style is immediately recognizable: extremely detailed compositions, extravagant creatures, caricature-like characters, vivid colors,

.....and an enormous number of elements packed into each scene.

Among his main influences were Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, and Frank Brangwyn.

Kirby created more than 400 paintings for book covers and posters, working for authors such as Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, H. G. Wells, Jules Verne, and Ian Fleming.

He also created artwork related to film, including material for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
