“This Sunday, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, also known as the Triumph of the Cross. It invites the faithful to reflect on the central mystery of Christianity: the Cross as the instrument of salvation and a symbol of ultimate victory over sin and death.
The Cross, once an emblem of suffering and shame in the Roman world, was transformed by Jesus Christ’s sacrifice into a sign of hope, redemption, and divine love. Through His passion and death, Christ turned an instrument of torture into the means of humanity’s reconciliation with God. The triumph lies not in worldly power or glory but in the paradox of the Cross—where weakness becomes strength, suffering becomes salvation, and death leads to eternal life. As St. Paul writes, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).
The Triumph of the Cross is a call to embrace the Cross in daily life. It challenges believers to carry their own crosses—sufferings, sacrifices, and trials—with faith and trust in God’s redemptive plan. The feast reminds us that the Cross is not merely a symbol to venerate but a way of life, inviting us to unite our struggles with Christ’s for the salvation of the world.
In celebrating this feast, we are invited to gaze upon the Cross with gratitude and awe, recognizing it as the tree of life that bridges heaven and earth.
