Ignaz Semmelweis (1818โ€“1865): A Hungarian physician who discovered that "childbed fever" mortality rates could be drastically reduced if doctors washed their hands in chlorinated lime solutions. His peers rejected the idea, finding it insulting to be told their hands were dirty, leading him to be committed to an asylum. Truth does not proceed on consensus.

Giordano Bruno was right but the masses were too lazy, arrogant, egotistical, ignorant, and stupid to see it. His unwillingness to retract his ideas wasn't ego. It was a defense of truth and he was burned at the stake for it. Truth does not proceed upon consensus. ๐Ÿชถ
