Anyone thought about an algorithm for promoting new npubs? Like the opposite of a trending feed. Notes by accounts under a certain age with under a certain number of followers. Obviously no bots (it really shouldn't be hard to filter out the worst of the spam bots) I think it would especially be useful to new people, more useful for new people to find other new people.

Nostr should be sold to activists and independent journalists as their identity backup. Nostr is where you post link to new social media accounts when previous ones get deleted. For your most loyal followers / other activists and journalists can always find you. Where you share stories exclusively that can't be shared on your other social media because of censorship. Just forget zaps all together, none of these people are monetised on social media platforms, they aren't motivated by money. A couple dollars a month for preaching to the choir is not appealing to them.

In the spirit of resisting censorship, I think i should add a link directory of npubs who are deplatformed from other social media / hidden from primal users on nostr. With a disclaimer that I don't necessarily approve of their views / that you may find them offensive etc.

The real value of nostr identity ownership and censorship resistance. Artists and content creators can't make a living here, that part comes after mainstream adoption. Zaps really aren't a selling point. The vast majority of social media users don't want or care about monetisation, it's too early for the ones that do. Lack of algorithms isn't a selling point either, we need more diverse algorithms and more user choice over them. The client that actually breaks through is going to be the one that provides the least friction. There's a reason that primal, as awful as it is, happens to be the most popular client. Even though it's slower, censors speech and hides people from its users, etc. etc. It's the easiest for a Twitter user to onboard to and it has millions of dollars from VC shills and gifters. Also I think the reason that nostr is so quiet lately is just because the primal app hasnt been working and they made it so people on desktop can't sign in without the app on their phones, so probably half of primals users went back to Twitter. While they're away someone should make a decent low friction Instagram clone. You don't even need to use caching servers like primal, you can use relay aggregators / bouncers as the default relay setting for users and leave the option of "looking under the hood" as something they can do later AFTER "learning to drive" Don't even include zaps, add them later after you've onboarded a couple hundred Instagram users, they'll think it's a new feature and run back to Instagram to brag about it. Like look at how upscrolled went viral, tiktok and Instagram users going back and saying "I think we found the new place" It was the same with xiǎohóngshū when USA banned tiktok for a day. A million Americans went to a Chinese platform they didn't know a thing about because they saw someone else talking about it the days before tiktok got banned. Nostr misses everyone of those opportunities. Key management is not the point of friction, key management is already less friction than email verification for any other social media. I could go on and on but I forgot what this was originally about and I'm cutting it now otherwise I'll type for 20 minutes then delete the whole thing instead of posting like I usually do.

Is Nostr dead or are all your followers in completely different timezone and only ever see your notes if you're awake at an unreasonable hour?

Nostr honestly feels like it's about as big as my town. (It's like 3000 people, plus another 2000 living in the surrounding villages and on farms) It's just big enough I don't know everyone, but we can all recognise each other. And we are really welcoming to new people. And there's clearly a tourist season (northern hemisphere winter when people stuck indoors get bored of twitter for nostr) For my town it's southern hemisphere autumn and winter, they come for the colourful leaves and because they were told it snows here(it does not snow here) Really the biggest difference is that nostr has a shitload of street performers and buskers trying to earn enough money to live while my town has 3 people who occasionally sit at the shopping centre playing acoustic guitars. And the bots. Imagine if my town was overrun with a thousand robots for each person, like just a shitload of empty waymo cars driving around clogging up the streets, and those little humanoid robots that do kung fu attacking people. That's kinda what Nostr would be like as a town.

The nostr psyops continue with censorship and pay to participate being offered as the solutions for spam. Client side "blocking" = can't work and retarded. Making people pay money to comment = even more retarded Meanwhile, pow and wot being discouraged as ways to prevent spam... All this talk about spam when a bot replies to someone's note. Absolutely no fucks given to bots spamming hashtags with csam and telegram links. (The thing that actually makes new people leave nostr and never come back 10 minutes after getting here)
