The calf died overnight. Heartbreaking. She was still looking for it this morning, I found and carried it to her to say goodbye. Feel guilty for letting it happen, she's so young and a new mother, should have called the herd when I noticed it was alone at dusk instead of waiting until 10pm. Should have led her up the fence to it instead of just leading her into the same paddock. This is the first calf I've lost since I started raising cattle. I'm not sure how long I should leave it for her to mourn. She's bellowing now, can feel the emotions in her screams.

They're in the same paddock now, her calf walked to the other side of it following the fence, she'll find it, I hear them calling each other now.

Gathering the cows. There's 3 young calves at the moment, all new mothers. The one I spoke to in this without her calf isn't one of them, that calf is already a few months old and knows it's way around, she took really good care of it and has been a good babysitter for other calves.

She is a terrible mother. It's 9:42pm and her calf is alone waiting for her to come and get it. I can't lead or herd the calf to her it'll end up running into a fence and getting tangled up.
