A few years ago, I was really obsessed with Beijing underground hip hop. Random people from China would DM me asking why I listened to Chinese rap and I even randomly connected with a Chinese rapper on WeChat.

Two of my friends, without knowing about each other, told me I must read the same book. It’s called I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. It’s about Deborah, a sixteen year old with schizophrenia who escapes into an imaginary world called Yr. A world of gods, demons, and rituals.
