today in things I don't want to do: writing a portable C version of chacha20 because apparently libsodium doesn't compile on android

I made damus, npubs, and zaps ⚡️
Independent bitcoin core and lightning dev.
github is failing all day today. maybe time to switch over to nostr tools soon. would be fun to start building clients for that

people on the AMA asked me what I think of AI so far. here's my current view:
It's a quantum state of simulatenous being overhyped, underhyped and oppropriately hyped. I find I can't use it for low level C stuff without it messing everything up and slowing me down, while simulateneously producing really good code for fixing bugs and writing tests.
I hate it and love it. I hate fixing the slop but I like that it is getting the code written that I don't want to write.
One things for sure, it's not going away, and it's only going to get better.
currently can't use signal desktop because it stops working after a few weeks and my nixos machine is very strict on self updating software... can't wait to switch over to nostr dms
Shakepay has lightning deposits now 🤯 this means i can take my nostr zaps and use them immediately in an apple pay wallet. So cool.
back from africa, decided to spend some time today merging the 1000s of PRs @elsat has vibe coded on damus iOS.
now that we have nostrdb fully integrated in iOS, it was only a small tweak to make notifications load instantly! lots more improvements in the pipeline. stay tuned.
now that we have giftwraps in damus android/notedeck/ios and a DM app in progress, I am thinking about starting work on a nostr mail client.
this would be like nip17, but except for direct messages, you would have full email-like threads with tagging, search, archive/read states.
once we have this we can start working on zap-based nostr mail prioritization.
after this we can start integrating this nostr inbox into nostr git workflows.
i will eventually replace all my productivity apps with nostr alternatives, with zaps as the noise and prioritization filter. it will be glorious. #damuswork
instagram has a somewhat hidden feature that I've never noticed before:
if you go to the list of people you follow, it will list everyone sorted by the counts of all of the posts you haven't seen yet.
would be a great feature on nostr. (note to self)
why are so many people fake. its so obvious they put on a fake version to make themselves more appealing. my favourite type of person is those who can riff in the most unhinged conversation without breaking a sweat. these conversations become a shit test. Fake people are caught off guard and don’t know how adapt their constructed personality to an unpredictable conversation.
