"Talking about Putin's claims to the regions in eastern and southern Ukraine, [Steve] Witkoff suggested Russia had a right to them because they were majority Russian-speaking and repeated a false Kremlin claim that fair referenda there showed residents wanted to be absorbed by Russia." Let's take a vote and see how many Spanish-speaking areas of the southern United States would like "to be absorbed by" Mexico. 😅 #Russia #Ukraine #USA #Mexico #language #politics #humor #humour
What long-form (article) client are you using the most these days? Yakihonne? HablaNews? Another site? #asknostr
Niantic has sold its third-party games division, including Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter, now, to Scopely for $3.5 billion, raising concerns about user location data. Pokémon Go relies on real-time location tracking for gameplay and ads, and the sale means this sensitive data could now be managed by a Saudi Arabian-owned company, sparking privacy concerns. #privacy
If you could have any fiction novels, graphic novels, or non-fiction works in a school library, what titles would you choose? I have the opportunity to recommend works for a new school library, covering ages 11-18. While I have a plethora of my own ideas, I'd love to hear more of your own recommendations as well. Titles, authors, and links are all welcome! #asknostr #books #bookstr #education #teaching
I've been really tempted to start up my own server to run my own nodes, to run NextCloud, etc. Start9 seems like a solid option, but ordering from North America and shipping here to Asia sounds like a headache. Especially considering customs charges and hold-ups by domestic post. I know that Start9 has their own guides online, but I'm curious to hear from those that have used their OS themselves. Have any of you techie nostriches managed to set the OS up on your own hardware? What has your experience been? If possible, I'm leaning towards using a humble mini-PC to install the OS and designating an external SSD (maybe 6TB or so) as the storage option. Anyone know if this would work decently well? #start9 #startOS #asknostr #freedomtech #digitalsovereignty
It's been a *number* of weeks since I last used GifBuddy but was messing around with it yesterday on an old Android phone and noticed a peculiarity. I used to be able to tap and hold a GIF, select 'Share Image', and then select an app to share the GIF in (as opposed to just dumping a link). But when I went through the usual procedure to send a GIF to a chat group (on the Line app), and it only came through as a static image instead of being animated. Earlier this morning, I started to mess around with other apps: Telegram, Plus Messenger (an unofficial Telegram app), Signal, etc. The problem persisted everywhere but Signal. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a quirk of those particular apps? Is there anyway to fix this? #asknostr #gif @lemon
If I'm not mistaken Eastern and Western Christians will be celebrating Pascha (Easter) on the same date this year, right? If so, that means Lent should be starting for most everyone this coming week. So, #Catholic & #Orthodox folks, what are some of your humble, go-to meatless or vegan meals that are still fairly natural and healthy? I assume most Bitcoiners and other types of nostriches aren't eating soy-based meals day and night? #Lent #fasting #vegan #meatless #asknostr #Christian
In the last day or two, I've received two zapvertising zaps. The first was for coffee from Latin America, and the most recent was for secure web hosting. I'm not in need of either service at the moment, but believe you me, I'd definitely consider those two before other providers or vendors, simply because they're on Nostr, are using zapvertising, AND are part of the BTC circular economy. #zapvertising
It's finally steak time. Don't forget to have some beef today! #foodstr #steakstr image
One of my latest obsessions is this guy on YouTube who sort of chants the entire progression of a given word from Proto-Indo-European all the way down to modern English. These videos make me want to do a MSc or PhD in Historical Linguistics. #linguistics #nerd
@Pawn Dev Out of curiosity, what does it mean to be a cybermedievalist? Are there certain core tenets you subscribe to? What does your day-to-day look like?
