A backpacking guiding and photography small-business operating in Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park.
West of Jasper lies Mount Robson Provincial Park, home to its namesake Mount Robson (the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies). After two summers of closures, the Berg Lake Trail up to Kinney Lake Campground is scheduled to re-open on June 27th. The remainder of the trail (from Kinney to Berg Lake) will remained closed this summer season. #CanadianRockies #MtRobson #Photography
There are scenic backcountry campgrounds all across Jasper National Park. Three Slides Campground, along the North Boundary Trail, is shown here with a great view looking towards the glaciated north face of Upright Mountain. Check out our 11 day guided backpacking adventure below (which finishes with a helicopter flight). We accept BTC for all of our backpacking adventure fees. #MyJasper #Backpacking #Bitcoin starrysummit.ca/backpacking/nbt-full image
In addition to our Guided Backpacking Adventures, we also produce limited edition large format prints of some of the most scenic places in Jasper National Park. Our featured image today is "Gargoyles Fury" printed 42" by 28". Taken last year during the peak of the Chetamon Wildfire this image shows Gargoyle Mountain aflame and is printed on metal so the flames seem to dance on the substrate as you move around the room. Our large format prints are limited to 3 pieces and each ships with a signed and numbered card describing the piece. https://starrysummit.ca/photography/current/p/gargoyles-fury image
There are plenty of places in the Canadian Rockies that have quite interesting rock! Including blue sodalite (the only gemstone mineral found in the Rockies), yellow crystalline calcite, not to mention all the interesting texture on eroded siltstone.
Even cloudy days in the Rocky Mountains offer great potential for interesting photography. Its always a good idea to pack an extra camera battery or three for the special sights you can come across while wandering in the hills!
A rainy day in the hills is a fine time to re-peg BTC/fiat prices. See below for BTC denominated prices for our guided backpacking adventures in Jasper National Park. All prices are inclusive of permits, group gear rentals, guiding, food during the trip, and transportation to and from the trailhead. Yesterday was a good day to get some website work done. Thankfully with a tiny laptop and a solar panel, the whole park is an office! The lower elevation trails accessed from the Jasper Townsite are a great option to get your legs back in shape for backpacking season hiking around lovely lakes and pretty wildflowers while birdsong fills the air. #CanadianRockies #JasperNationalPark #MyJasper
The Fiddle River Trail is home to our introductory backpacking guided adventure. This trail is a great place to build your backcountry skills and its campgrounds are well-equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and fast flowing fresh Rockies water. A chance encounter today while out for a wander, crossing paths with a Woodland Caribou. Caribou are a species-at-risk in the Canadian Rockies and it is quite lucky to see one of them in the wild.
It's always interesting to go for a wander on some older trails in Jasper National Park and see signs of many generations of trail work. These old bridges would have been built in the 1950-1960s and have started to blend into the forest.
Aurora borealis are one of the most amazing sights to see when visiting the Canadian Rockies. The best time to see the aurora is during the winter, due to the long dark of the Canadian winter. On June 21'st, the summer solstice Jasper has an impressive 16 hours and 55 minutes of daylight, shrinking down to only 7 hours and 35 minutes on the winter solstice! Being far away from light pollution, our 11 day North Boundary Trail guided backpacking adventure is a great choice for stargazing.
Even though we are over a month away from the technical start of summer, it is a good time to start thinking about backpacking in the fall. Mild temperatures, fewer bugs, and drier trails make August and September an excellent time for a backpacking adventure. Look below for details about our guided backpacking program on Jasper's legendary North Boundary Trail. This 11 day adventure is the trip of a lifetime and travels through some of the most remote parts of Jasper National Park. Pay in CAD or BTC.
This heat wave in Jasper National Park has lead to quite a few large avalanches across the Park (and temperatures in the Jasper Townsite as high as +25 C). This is a great week to stick within the boundaries of a ski resort, or to start training for hiking season!
