A backpacking guiding and photography small-business operating in Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park.
Congrats to our lead guide Ben Nearingburg on finishing a project to visit all the backcountry warden cabins in Jasper (depending how you define 'backcountry' there are between 38-40 all across the park and then a half-dozen roadside buildings)! These buildings are steeped in history and harken back to a time when warden (and their families) would live in the backcountry year-round. Many of our guided-backpacking adventures cross paths with these cabins, and their porches still serve as oases on rainy days in the hills. #MyJasper #Backpacking https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2269725763709 image
The sky was ablaze yesterday morning along the Icefields Parkway south of the Jasper Townsite. With vibrant morning skies and aurora at night keep your camera close! #MyJasper #CanadianRockies #Photography
The Fall is one of the most magical times of year in the Canadian Rockies. A dusting of snow on the peaks, and golden leaves in the valley make for splendid scenery. #MyJasper #CanadianRockies #Timelapse #Photography
Berg Lake is not the only scenic sight at the end of Jasper's North Boundary Trail. Fall is a fabulous time to visit Moose Pass (shown here), a tough but rewarding trail; visiting the pass via the NBT or Moose River Route should be on any Rockies backpackers todo list! #MyJasper #Backpacking #CanadianRockies #Photography
There are few nicer sights along a backcountry trail than bright new bridges! Many thanks to the fine folks on @JasperNP Trail Crew for all their work (and especially some of the artfully crafted newish bridges!). Stay tuned for new guided hikes in JNP in Summer 2024 #MyJasper #CanadianRockies #Backpacking
This week's backcountry book recommendation is "Jasper-Robson: A Taste of Heaven" by Don Beers. This is a comprehensive tome and despite being out of print remains the best description of many of the older (and more rugged) trails in the park. #MyJasper #CanadianRockies #Guidebooks image
Miette Road, accessing Miette Hot Springs and the Fiddle River Trailhead in Jasper National Park will re-open to vehicle traffic as of Sept 1'st. The Ralph Forster Hut in Mount Robson Provincial Park is a historic (and well-camouflaged) alpine cabin on the south face of Mount Robson (the tallest peak in the Rockies) built by the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) in 1970. Regrettably a broken window has let pack-rats occupy and damage the building. We will be volunteering with the Jasper/Hinton Section of the ACC this September to help repair the hut to keep it as a welcome refuge for mountaineers on this classic Rockies route. Stay tuned! #MyJasper #MountRobson #CanadianRockies #ACC
For this week's Rockies Book Recommendation we have Frank Camp's classic "Roots in the Rockies". Frank was a second-generation Park Warden in Jasper National Park, who tells of interesting tales of life based in the backcountry (in Jasper and across other places in Canada's National Park network). Well worth a read, especially before setting off on the North or Sound Boundary Trails in Jasper! #MyJasper #CanadianRockies image
For our inaugural Friday Rockies book recommendation today we have C.J Taylor's classic "Jasper: A History of The Place and Its People". This book serves as a great resource for history of the region from the 1800s to the present day. Anecdotes from former explorers, backcountry wardens, and travelers passing through the region give insight into what life was like before and in the early days of the park system. #MyJasper #CanadianRockies #History image
This summer the Berg Lake Trail is Mount Robson Provincial Park is open to Kinney Lake Campground. Extensive work widened the previous trail and dramatically expanded the parking area. The full trail is planned to re-open for Summer 2025. Stay-tuned over the fall for our Summer 2024 guided backpacking adventures in Mount Robson Provincial Park. #CanadianRockies #MountRobson
