Portishead.
Everyone says bitcoin makes coordinated action possible … then HODLs and maybe buys a bitaxe to solo mine.
You can mine with other bitcoiners and increase your solo odds 1,000x

Getting a mining block party going is like moving a mountain

You need serious hashrate
Some fool has to get the party started
Today I am that fool

I built Upendo as an experiment
To see how people can mine bitcoin together and try to find a block
Trouble is getting momentum for enough hashrate to have a real chance
How to get the flywheel to spin?
How to get many people to bid?
Maybe new things require new incentives
Morning thought:
What if the answer to bitcoin mining centralization is lottery mining?
2+ years ago, I set out to build @`Rigly`
How's it going?
There’s new mining going up in Nigeria, bringing electricity to communities, as a direct result of bitcoiners buying hashrate (Trojan Mining) on Rigly.
For buyers, Rigly is the only place where you can bid on hashrate at auction and get a fair market price. Where it’s possible to buy mining p2p from mining farms - and mine at a profit
For sellers, we’re learning more about what mining farms need and building a Seller Portal to give the same view as a mining pool.
We see new signups each day.
It’s been a joy to build something useful.
Block party at 18 PH/s and rising ⛏️
#bitcoin block party hashing right along

In the old days of bitcoin, you could mine on your computer and get lucky (so I’ve heard)
Solo mining with a bitaxe makes that possible again - but it’s a 1 in millions chance of finding a block.
Solo mining with a group improves the odds 20-100x
The answer to #bitcoin mining centralization might be bitcoiners mining together - solo as a group - like a raffle at a baseball game.
I built Upendo to try out this idea.
Check it out, bid on some hashrate and join our mining block party ⛏️

I think what has been missing in #bitcoin is 2 things
1. Simple way to mine
2. Incentive to do it
The bitaxe and @Rigly address #1
I’m just now seeing the incentive for #2
The incentive for mining on an individual level is not the block subsidy…
It’s the fact that, if everyone can acquire hashrate and make the same choice (band together, mine a block) then the incentive is to be the *first* to make that choice - and profit
What we’re learning in the block party is how to coordinate the same choice - where, much like the first buyers of bitcoin, the early miners in a block party are rewarded - if they can pull in enough people to mine the block in time!
It’s an idea in progress..
Come learn with me - I’m coordinating the same choice and trying to mine a few sats.

Just hashed a 33 trillion difficulty block
Will you be mining with us when we hash a winner?

Everyone says “mining is too centralized”
Few people do anything about it
Every auction chips away at hashrate going to the Big Pools
