$BTC Tech Nerd Army! THREAD: The Hypocrisy of “Decentralization” While Worshiping GitHub 🧵🔗 1/ Bitcoiners and open-source advocates love to preach “decentralization” as holy doctrine. But here’s the irony: they’ll dismiss your project if it’s not on GitHub—a centralized platform owned by Microsoft. Let’s unpack this cognitive dissonance. 2/ GitHub’s Centralized Reality: Owned by Microsoft (a trillion-dollar corporation). Censors users (e.g., blocking Iran/Syria under U.S. sanctions). Single point of failure: outages, bans, or policy changes can erase access. But somehow, this is the “gold standard” for decentralized projects? 🤔 3/ The Contradiction: Bitcoin was built to destroy trust in centralized middlemen. Yet, its own devs host Bitcoin Core on GitHub. If Microsoft pulled the plug tomorrow, coordination chaos would follow. “Don’t trust, verify”… unless it’s GitHub? Pick a lane. 4/ Why This Hypocrisy Matters: Gatekeeping: Projects not on GitHub are labeled “unserious,” even if they use decentralized tech. - Been there got the T-shirt a few days ago. Dependency: Centralized platforms = easier for states/corporations to control. This is the opposite of Bitcoin’s purpose. 5/ The Excuses: “GitHub is just a tool!” “Everyone uses it!” But tools shape behavior. By relying on GitHub, you’re feeding the beast of centralization. You can’t dismantle the master’s house with the master’s tools. 6/ Alternatives Exist: Control your own infrastructure for a start. Yet, very few do that. Why? Convenience > principles. 7/ What’s the Solution? Stop using GitHub as a credibility metric. Judge projects by: Quality of PoW Decentralized governance Resistance to censorship Support decentralized tools, even if they’re less polished. 8/ Final Thought: Decentralization isn’t a marketing gimmick. It’s a practice. If we keep outsourcing collaboration to Microsoft, we’re just rebuilding the system Bitcoin aimed to escape. Break the cycle. Align your tools with your values or else prepare for a fallout !
