What is the beginning of wisdom? It is owning and accepting that we are forgetful. We forget where our identity lies. It is understanding my hope is not found in *my* knowledge. It is understanding that my identity is not found in material possessions. It is fully owning that my identity is not rooted in my relationships: not my wife, not my children. I understand that my identity is not in my works or my excellence or my *perfect* tendencies. Notice how many times the word “my” is used in that last sentence. I’ll make the confession, I have identity amnesia. Many of us forget what or who our identity is in. I didn’t do the work on the cross, Jesus did. It is His glory and his alone. “My” works don’t do anything except puff me up. With that, here’s some beautiful verses from Psalm 27 to help you (especially in times of trouble) remember who your identity is in: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. I heard it mentioned on a podcast tonight how money isn’t everything (it’s not) and that community is extremely important (it is). I would add some other important things: adding to your skill set to be able to: •help people (field medicine and emergency medicine and preparedness, mental health challenges) •fix things •build things
