Perennials are waking up in the food forest. It won't be long before there's food growing everywhere with new yields ripening all throughout the year. The chicken compost system is waking up and starting to build momentum. I've started to slowly work the leftover compost into one large pile. With each forkfull more and more worms are exposed. The chickens and ducks are back up to their full egg production as well. The cost of feed will go down and the quality of the eggs will go up as I transition away from feeding grain to feeding compost. The system produces all the eggs and compost we need plus enough extra to sell to more than make up for the input costs of grain feed. Selling the eggs and compost at Bitcoin meetups generates sats flow too. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #chicken #compost

Lambing season is in full swing at the homestead, starting with the dairy sheep. The first 8 lambs were born in mid March in horrible weather. Just above freezing rain with heavy winds, cause all the lambs to go hypothermic. Thankfully, the trick we've been using for years of putting the lambs in front of the gentle heat from our Bitcoin mining clothes dryer warmed them all back up in no time. We tube fed them some colostrum that we had frozen from last year, put a fleece jacket on them, and got them back together with their mother under some heat lamps. Redbud haze is showing excellent cold climate tolerance. Volunteers are popping up in the garden, handling freezing nighttime temperatures. I left several colas unharvested to test mold resistance and they spent all winter dropping seeds. Many of the leftover buds are still loaded with viable seed. I hoping these early volunteers survive so I can work the cold hardy genetics into the breeding program. #weedstr #cannabis View quoted note →
