Note that nostr.land is the only relay that requires authentication and I have that authentication toggle selected in the relay management.

Nostr NIPs are sort of putting the cart before the horse. They try to enforce a standard before anything has even been tried. Compare to AtProto which just lets apps each make their own lexicon and then later on down the line competing apps can come together and settle on something like an NIP if they wish.
