To my Christian brothers and sisters: If you have Christ you have everything you need. You can’t take your possessions and wealth with you. Naked you came from your mother’s womb; and naked you shall return. Yahweh is your shepherd, and you will not want for anything. He will lead you through the valley of deep darkness and bring you into his dwelling place, in spite of your wandering heart. Fix your eyes on Jesus, and place your trust in the good shepherd who laid down his life for you. He has given you himself and that is everything.

Seeking answers to the questions “What is money? Is bitcoin money?” will take you into a deep rabbit hole on a journey across multiple disciplines. Be warned. It will likely take up much more of your time than you expect. For Christians, we must take this journey with an aim to answer a broader and supremely more important question. “How do I glorify God in the way I relate to and use money?”

YTD, USD has lost over 50% of its purchasing power relative to sats.

@Simon Pranaitis how do you balance (if that's even the right word) the expectation that bitcoin will increase in purchasing power over time and the call for Christians to give generously/sacrificially/joyfully? I'm not talking about the temptation to secure our future materially and at the expense of generosity. Though that's definitely there. I'm talking about the wisdom of delayed giving if we intend to give the same amount of sats and the recipient is operating in fiat.

GM. I applaud Coinbase for donating to open source. It's also hard not to view it as a diversion tactic to take the sting out of the criticism they've received for removing native bitcoin support in their pay service.

The number of digits generated by USD-to-sats conversion is an obstacle for my pre-teen kids to save and think in sats. Example: Grandma sends $20 for Christmas and we convert it to sats. At current prices that's around $41,600. If a child has other savings, we're quickly dealing with millions of sats. We keep a physical ledger to keep track of and custody their sats. @FreeMarketKids how have you handled this? Any suggestions?

Christian bitcoiners, is your love of money (bitcoin) leading you to worship Mammon? It's a real temptation! Remember that you've been redeemed (your debt has been paid) by Jesus. Worship Christ and seek his kingdom first. Consider why God has brought Bitcoin into your life. You can't take your sats with you, but you can use it for God's glory. Yes, as a bitcoiner it's a struggle to balance hodling and investing in high Kingdom ROI projects. Saving is good, but we should be honest about the motivations that are driving our hodling behavior. You can't serve God and mammon. There is no second best. Our citadel is God. Our hope is the resurrection life, a renewed world where Christ reigns forever. I'm bullish on Christian bitcoiners. Praying for you all.

Broken Money was a great read, and is definitely getting used as a textbook in our homeschool.

"Nature's ledger (gold) has robust parameters for supply and debasement but doesn't move and get verified fast enough in the telecommunication age. Mankind's ledger (the dollar) moves and gets verified fast enough but doesn't have robust parameters for supply and debasement. The only way to fix this speed gap in the long run would be to develop a way for a widely accepted, scarce, monetary bearer asset itself to also be able to settle over long distances at the speed of light." - Lynn Alden, Broken Money, pp. 105-106 What a paragraph to end a section. Brilliant summary and setup. Fantastic read thus far, @Lyn Alden! Thank you.
