What would be a good way to articulate the difference in the internal experience between caring about someone and wanting to encourage them to grow as a person vs "trying to change someone"? I think I can feel the difference, but I'm not sure how to articulate it.

When we talk about the declining birth rate we always seem to talk about women and their choices... why don't we talk more about men? I do know some women who have chosen to not have kids, but I know a lot more women who really do want to have children but who can't find a man who wants to take on the responsibility of being a husband and a father.

People are rarely truly “wrong”; more often, they’re just speaking from a limited perspective. If you want to change their mind, don’t flat-out deny what they’re saying, instead, add new information. When someone insists on a point, they’re probably right in some sense. They’re telling you that 3+2=5, and of course, it does. What they may not see is that the problem also includes a 4, which makes the full answer 9. So instead of telling them they’re wrong for saying the answer is 5, just show them the missing piece.

In order to stay married, you must get good at knowing when you were wrong, admitting to it, and correcting it. ...it's one of the hardest things you'll ever do!!!

We’ve been having a hilarious convo this morning about how to keep our Hispanic loved ones away from the ICE crew in Chicago. We’ve got the solution y’all… we are going to ship them basic bitch uniforms and midwestern man clothes! 😝 For the ladies its yoga pants, Uggs, scrunchies for messy buns, hair bleach, and of course Starbucks cups for their faux Pumpkin Spice lattes! For the gents It’s Crocs, tshirts, cargo shorts, baseball hats, and visor shades! Because of course no one deports a blonde lady who is drinking a pumpkin spice latte, and as my husband pointed out… “you will never get deported if you’re wearing shorts in Chicago winter!” 🤣 Funny, but not funny.

Sitting in an airport... Again. I'm so over it, but also, this is wildly amazing. I'm one of the first generations of humans that this is even possible for. I seriously have friends that I've had drinks with on three different continents 🌎🍷 that's fucking amazing!

There have been many men in my life who liked to think of themselves as “protectors”, but were in fact incapable of fulfilling that role. They would have been protectors if they had seen a man physically attack me right in front of them. I imagine that they would have jumped in to help. But that never happens, predators aren’t stupid, they don’t attack you in front of your boyfriend/friend/uncle, etc. And my experience has nearly universally been that when I spot someone who I suspect is a predator, and is a threat to me, or when there has been an incident, when I tell the “protector” men in my life, they don’t believe me and they down play or dismiss my concerns. “O he didn’t mean it that way”, “ya that’s crass but he was just joking” “Nah, must have been an accident”, “he was just really drunk, he’s not normally like that”, “don’t be so sensitive”, etc, etc. to the point where I just stopped telling the “protector” men in my life about concerns and incidents. And so, because assaults don’t happen right in front of your loved ones, and because I've not been believed when I express my concerns or report dodgy incidents… I have no protectors. (things are better these days. But this is the story of most of my life)

Americans are for sale. Americans treat others like they are also for sale. ...that can cause some cultural friction. These are broad cultural generalities of course, but it’s generally true that Americans are very motivated by money even to the point where they will justify doing things that cross their own boundaries saying “well I got paid.” But in many other parts of the world, people aren’t so motivated by money. Perhaps they don’t work past 6pm. You can offer to pay them more to work past 6pm, but they may very well take that as an insult. They aren’t for sale. If you want their services, you’ll have to wait till tomorrow.

So, no one talks about DOGE anymore. How did that work out? Did we make government more efficient?

Chicago is a violent city. I know, I'm from there, I have all kinds of terrifying stories. Should troops show up to Chicago I doubt they will help. They will put on a good show right in the center of town, right where there isn't an issue and they aren't needed. Chicago does need some help, but this ain't it.

The loud American Bitcoin maxi’s are the enemy of Bitcoin, or certainly the understanding of Bitcoin that I signed up for. I studied monetary theory in University, and I was appalled when I realized what an epic concentration of power control of money provided a government. I fell in love with Bitcoin when I realized that it was a means of removing that concentration of power. The maxi influencers that exist today, and the people that they are attempting to appeal to, are not in the Bitcoin world to remove concentrations of power, they are signing up to be at the top of the next concentration of power. They aren’t showing up to remove the monster, they are showing up to be in charge of the new monster.

Lately I’ve been appreciating how important curiosity is. I’ve found that when I’m having a difficult interaction with someone, when the way they are treating me isn’t up to my standards, it’s generally because they have no curiosity for me or my ideas. And I am better able to understand a situation, and come up with strategies and ideas when I’m looking at things with a sense of curiosity.
