Unlike #Signal it doesn’t need your phone number. #Telegram and #WhatsApp not only want your phone number they collect loads of data and metadata from your device. Especially vile is the collection of your device‘s IMEI (device ID) and sharing all that data with companies to make money and with authorities due to the need to comply. In authoritarian countries this metadata can cost you your life!
