The day before the Africa Bitcoin conference in Nairobi I took the opportunity to address the women at the Satoshi Sisters Brunch organized by Charlene Fadirepo not to wait for their government to „legalize“ Bitcoin, as it’s not illegal, but to start now to use and save it. On my journeys in African countries I speak with many people and their first questions are: „is it not as scam? Is it legal?“

Almost daily I am purchasing goods at any of over 2,000 PicknPay stores, coffee at First Light Coffee in Jeffreysbay and petrol at TotalEnergies with WiCode vouchers from @bitrefill in #SouthAfrica. Today I tested the new feature in @npub1ajlr...zx3q which allows you to directly pay the QR code from PicknPay. It worked! Thanks to the @Breez ⚡️ SDK that enables Lightning payments via swaps from @Liquid Network

If you’re into #Bitcoin and want to feel how living on it works come to #SouthAfrica and travel along the Garden Route. You’ll find many places accepting BTC on @btcmap you can visit @BitcoinEkasi @bitcoinloxion @bitcoinwitsand purchase food, clothes, electricity and pay your municipal bills at any PicknPay. I‘m trying to visit as many places I can to incentivize the early adopter merchants to stick to accepting it. Some waiters are intimidated other cashiers seem to be totally used to it.

Any voting mechanism based on money is ultimately rigged. Like Proof of Stake. It just perpetuates that the wealth stays with the wealthy (overwhelmingly in male hands) who get more wealthy over time.

Exploring Nairobi we Bitcoin for Fairness met the Tando team who released a fantastic app! 30 Mio. ppl in Kenya can now be paid with #Lightning and receive KES in their M-Pesa account. Basically you can pay everything with #bitcoin and the recipient doesn't need to learn anything about it. It is so important in countries where people live from paycheck to paycheck, they need to be able to spend their bitcoin. I confirm it works like a charm, paid taxi drivers for groceries, eating dinner in a restaurant etc.

These are the outskirts of an urban center. Which one? Hint: I was surprised to see so much green.
