@YakiHonne @Shaun @fiatjaf @Vitor Pamplona Guys, i was preparing a post about nip63 and its implementation in the new version of Yakihonne, but my robot identified that there is a kind-conflict going on. Amethyst already uses kind 1163 for its Profile Gallery, and has been for a while, and by the looks of it is in active use (nothing massive, but still).

Better to adjust now i think. It sucks because on the nip63 side it impacts both client and relay implementations, but its still in its infancy.

Here i am, thinking "i should sit down and have a good look at what the new @YakiHonne has to offer, the app look super clean". And then @Vitor Pamplona drops a new version of his schizo client that when you open it feels like a fever dream. I am tapping out, its simply too much. I am calling it, i think we just hit escape velocity and Nostr is now a break-away internet civilization. The consequence is that I can't expect anyone to believe me when i tell them that this thing they never heard of, just has everything an more. I sort of already have this problem, where they think i am talking about some idea or ambition that may or may not exist at some point in the future...yet...here we are, in Atlantis appearently 🤷‍♂️. I have seen the wording/framing before, and it bothers me...it is wrong. On one level its the words used such as 'account' and 'service'. Your Nostr profile is not an account, the apps you use are not a service (they might contain services perhaps). These words/terms subsequently omit the entire paradigm shift. I understand you somehow have to meet the reader in their understanding of the world. Relays are services, and on that level you 'take things elsewhere', those things being your publications. But other than that, you don't 'move' when you switch clients. And it is relevant when going into the line that directly follows: "A similar approach has been used by X rivals Bluesky and Mastodon." But it is not. Nostr does not have a similar approach to ATproto or Activitypub. Nostr has a fundamentally different approach, and it there are hints to that in the fact the article talks about "Bluesky" and "Mastodon" in the first place. There are still people that don't fully realize what is going on, and think "Nostr" as a term and concept can fade into the background somehow, yet i would ask those people what term they expect those type of mainstream articles to use at some point. They use Bluesky, they use Mastodon....but if you have not noticed yet, they also use Nostr. Perhaps harder to 'market', it is the only term/word that makes any sense to use. Saying Bluesky and Mastodon is 'good enough', but what would be the easy to market 'good enough' term replacement for Nostr? Tell me? 'Primal'? 'Divine'? 'Buzz'? None of those make any sense when you want to refer to the underlying concept/phenomena. I guess you could say there is 'fediverse' on the activitypub side of things, which got some traction and works. But realize that we don't have to come up with a new marketable term for Nostr, because Nostr was not dominated by a single implementation in the first place that requires 'term-circumvention'. Anyway, i know get a lot into the semantics here, but i do so to point towards what is underlying all of that. That we should not stop trying to convey to others the actual paradigm shift that Nostr introduces. And that seems like a pointless effort with 0 results because that is inherrent to new paradigms; innitially people lack the mental framework because it simply did not exist before, so talking about it confuses them because it has nothing to land into in their heads. That is ok. Its this stupid thing where you only get it after the fact when you already understand, much like a riddle. But it is a mistake to therefor conclude that giving the riddle beforehand is pointless, it is not. It is the combination of these injected free floating unsettled ideas, notions and terms that innitially make no sense, and a subsequent hands on experience of the new paradigm that ultimately lead towards the 'aha-moment'. If you did not provide the riddle, or worse, gave them a borked explanation because it was easier to take a bunch of shortcuts that alligned with their current understanding, you undermine the aha-moment. And we need people to get to that insight, however hard that road may be. Because only then can they truelly start to leverage the abilities the new paradigm provides them, have compentence and therefor confidence in navigating it. It is only then they start to become real Nostr users, and as a result the real added value of Nostr as such start to manifest, its horizontal network effects start to get traction, and the only real hope we have to outcompete the legacy or alternatives out there. Don't get me wrong, i take the win that the letters n-o-s-t-r are printed by the BBC. People having seen the word in the first place is where it all starts. But i won't stop pushing this point that our words/terms matter, and that the new paradigm of Nostr is not hard, it is just new; and that the only way to make it not-new, is by endlessly providing the correct framing, so that one day they will come to understand. Nostr.

Not gonna lie, the fact my robot just bothers to read my Nostr posts whenever i task it to do something without me asking to do so, so it manages to get relevant additional context is pretty sweet. At the same time, it has some weird implications.....please don't prompt inject me in the replies :(

@Alex Gleason i just promised in my proposal for luxembourg that during the 2 hour training session, people will make their own app. I just went ahead and assumed you could provide me with the shakespeare resources for that exercise..... So a heads up and thanks in advance 🤣

@Shaun asked me if i could write a reference for @YakiHonne 's grant renewal from @OpenSats . And if i sit down and praise them, i might as well do it in public. If i recall correctly i met Shaun at Bitcoin Amsterdam in 2024, where we were both on a panel, and started using Yakihonne not long after that. I have recommended and praised Yakihonne in the past multiple times. View quoted note → . Not just because they are part of the handful of well-developed, mature Nostr clients in the space, but because I know the team is very responsive if there are any issues, and they are open to user feedback and suggestions. I wanted the displaying of threads to change, and at this point they provide options to each their preference. The issue with recommendations is that you leave people in their hands so to speak, so the app as is at that moment is only half as important as the confidence i have in the team behind it. There is another side of things as to why i often recommend Yakihonne to people, and that is because it walks the line between features and clarity pretty well. It does the micro-blogging part just fine, but the decision to mix in the long-form content really expands the content horizon. Most articles i bothered to read were actually due to the fact the app presented/recommended them to me. I think all the articles i have published myself on Nostr were created using Yakihonne. They eventually adopted outbox and there are some other Nostr-purity test things that I like, but of course i have my criticisms. The main one is that they dropped the ball on the relay-feed side of things; a ball they picked up at some point with the introduction of Relay Orbits. It was a start of things, but from there it never got to where i think it could be for now. I generally rotate between all sorts of clients on an hourly basis, but find myself opening Yakihonne less and less because it is slow compared to some of the other clients out there, however much i like the wiggling pudding/spinning croissant loading icon, at the end of the day i'd rather just like to see the content. It has been a while since they had an update, but apparently one is coming soon. I am excited to see what they are coming up with. They bother to do marketing and try to bind users to their app. Nostr itself has not seen enough traction to constitute enough of a 'market' for apps to be thriving healthy businesses. But running under the assumption that point will come, i believe the team has what it takes to be one of those commercially viable businesses and remain a well-behaved ecosystem player. To that effect, just give them the money to continue their operation.It's unfortunate the new version of the app is not out yet, so i can't judge as to whether they have been slacking in the last period. A little bird told me they are supposedly doing something with NIP-63, which would make me very happy. Also the fact that almost everyone is sucking on the same Jack nipple by proxy is terrible of course (i know Opensats has more than just those funds, but still). It already has caused tensions and resentment and drama and what not. And me publicly advocating for one player to get money immediately implies that others don't. But I will leave the relative calculation as to who deserves what and when over the other up to the board, all i am doing is running the assessment of whether the continued support of Yakihonne in and of itself is a good thing, and I would say yes....yes it is.
