What #Bitcoin needs is an explicit filter declaration API. Your node announces its filters.
Everyone gets what they want:
- Filter enjoyers get to virtue signal
- Everyone else gets to route around them
Win/win?
Does the #Bitcoin peering API already support publishing which filters your node has in use? I think this would be a useful API if not.
Filter enjoyers can declare loudly via the API what filters they use, signaling their opinion of whatβs tolerable on the network.
Fee-maximizing nodes can use this information to apportion their scarce peer list to other fee-maximizing nodes.
Everyone gets what they want?
π― The only time you know for sure that a seed is a secret is the moment you made it, yourself, by hand, offline.
At any other time you canβt b be sure. Not your entropy, not your seed. #Bitcoin

1. It was always possible to put arbitrary data on #Bitcoin
2. It would be cheap and easy for a State actor to have done so at any point in the past.
3. A smart State actor would have seeded the time chain with illegal data long ago just in case they ever wanted to weaponize it.
4. Therefore, it is nearly certain that ILLEGAL DATA IS ALREADY ON EVERY FULL NODE OF EVERY BLOCK CHAIN.
5. If you truly believe that this is an existential threat to Bitcoin, then you may as well give up crawl back to fiat.
6. Bitcoin is indestructible, itβll be just fine without your hand-wringing.
