Lightning is a hot wallet. It must always be connected to the internet to work. When Bitcoin L1 transactions are too expensive to practically send to cold storage, are we expected to keep our entire life savings on hot custodial Lightning wallets?

Privacy is much more important than having the ability to buy weed on the internet. Money that isn’t private loses its fungibility. If the government knows Ross Ulbricht received Bitcoin to a certain address, that UTXO is now different than others. When we buy KYC Bitcoin, governments know; and when governments want to take from us, they have a trillion $5 wrenches. If Bitcoin is to destroy central banks and become the currency of the world, we need L2 solutions that can compete with the anonymity and speed of cash.
