I get where my brother’s coming from, but sometimes I wonder, without sounding like the cliché “back in my day”, what’s the best way to teach my kids about racism? I’ll teach them it’s wrong, of course, but I also want them to know how to navigate the world without being overly sensitive or easily shaken. Because let’s be real, no matter how much we educate, there will always be people who act like jerks. Back when I was still on Malaysian Muslim Twitter, I often noticed how many defended the banking system’s usury nature, sometimes without realising it, simply because it carried the label “Islamic Bank.” Whenever alternatives were suggested, avoiding unnecessary loans, living simply, renting a house, sacrificing some comfort, or even buying a little BTC, those voices were brushed aside as unrealistic, , unattainable, even crazy. I understand why. Change is difficult. After generations under fiat and the structure of Bank Negara (Central Bank of Malaysia), it feels almost impossible to picture life outside debt, fiat, and short-term thinking.
