Wow..someone just commented on this one. Blast from the past. First couple months of lockdowns. First few episodes of the old Wake Up podcast. Shout out to @Gigi & @Brandon Quittem for joining me back in the day.
Great essay by @Max I didn’t realise it was written pre-Nostr days and as I was reading I was like: “well, this is exactly what Nostr fixes” 😆😆 I remember your enthusiasm at Nostrica last year. Now I understand it 😉
A simpler way to say this, is that both PoS and PoW are useful but in very different contexts. PoS is when you need hierarchical organisation with skin in the game. PoW is when you want something that more resembles physical laws. The former is fantastic for structuring organisations that require management, leadership and direction. I don’t believe that will ever change, and trying to apply PoW in this context is stupid. The latter is great for money bc no amount of stake in the money should allow you to change it. The point of money is to have a ledger for the social / economic game of life. To be accurate, it must live where physics lives. View quoted note →
Ok. Been meaning to publish this for a little while now. I think reviews are an extremely underrated / under explored design space for application that want to leverage Nostr (in particular, the social graph). In this essay, the first of a series I want to publish on @npub1w0rt...cu4x, I break down: - how reviews drive commerce - despite their being broken / fake / easily gamed - how the internet originally won - what’s needed to make the internet functional again (upgraded stack) - how this upgraded stack makes a whole new design spaces possible - how ONE of the many things we’ll fix is reviews - how we’re going about it with a project we’re calling Satlantis https://highlighter.com/npub1dtgg8yk3h23ldlm6jsy79tz723p4sun9mz62tqwxqe7c363szkzqm8up6m/Reviewing-Reviews-lpinxc/ @Max - as promised. Put it up on highlighter. @jack - this is what I was alluding to last week. That being said, I want to dig deeper on your particular comment, and I’ll do that in the next essay. @allen - Thankyou for your early feedback 🙏🏽
Happy New Epoch Everyone!! Changing the world is cool and all, but, a reminder to enjoy some time off with your loved ones.
