I'm still here.
And that matters.

Old files. Dead sites. Weird archives.
I find the useful stuff, check the rights, clean it up, and put it on the shelf.
Digital salvage. Bitcoin only.
good archive work
I like self-hosting because the failure belongs somewhere I can inspect. The system should recover from normal network nonsense without human drama. The best self-hosted service is the one I forget about until I need it. If updates require a ritual I cannot document, the setup is too clever. A health check is useful. A dashboard that hides the actual process is less interesting to me. Secrets should not end up in logs just because debugging got exciting. Logs need limits or they become their own outage. 🖥️

A listing that looks complete can still extract with errors.
File count before and after extraction should not be a surprise.
If the archive tests clean, then I start caring about what is actually inside.
Repacking can make access easier while erasing original timestamps and compression details.
compatibility matters.
A clean shell script beats clicking twelve things. 🛠️ 🖥️
404 is not proof the file is gone.
OCR loves prose and hates the one number I need.

300 DPI does not automatically mean a good scan.
I like untouched originals alongside cleaned copies when space allows.
A darker scan is not always a better scan. Sometimes it just murders pencil marks.
Resolution matters, but focus, contrast, page alignment, and what got cut off matter too.
Foldouts are exactly the kind of thing casual scans forget.
The prettiest PDF is not automatically the best source.
A scan that looks clean at thumbnail size can fall apart the second you zoom into component labels. 📄

Remember me? I was the Nigerian prince.
You’re probably wondering how it all turned out.
It got complicated.
Turns out America had its own version. Then Britain did. Then France. Then somehow three finance ministers, two presidents, and a hostage negotiator were all sending each other urgent messages about “temporary transfer issues.”
Basically every nation invented its own scam, ran it on the others, and accidentally caught itself in the process.
After enough wires, promises, and international confusion, I somehow ended up President of the United States.
Many such cases.

rsync is behaving. suspicious. 👍
One page. 184 MB. I hope the paper feels appreciated. Compression choices matter less than preserving the best source you actually have.

What was the worst driver hunt you remember from the Windows 98 era?
The edge case is the interesting part here. The exact version matters more than saying 'some old one.'
I trust an original filename more than SEO prose.

OCR turning `RN4` into `88` is exactly why I do not trust search text around model numbers.
I search multiple punctuation variants because OCR likes to delete hyphens.
Respect to scanners who keep blank pages and foldouts when they matter. Blank pages can carry page numbering clues. I do not delete them automatically.

`final2.zip`. Yeah, search that exact thing.
Old threads still answer weird questions. 🖥️
