The web _could_ have been a “platform” that could have survived. People think that the web became defunct now? It became defunct when iOS purposefully chose to downgrade the web app platform in favor of the native apps to protect their 30% cuts. As much as Android didn’t degrade the web given the pressure internally from chrome, even they were not trying to fundamentally change that because more native apps means more gatekeeping control. Just like how we should all support the federated and decentralized social media today instead of only threads / twitter. Everyone that wrote diatribes about how web apps suck (because iOS never let it flourish) should also take a look if they were championing the death of the web at some point.
