Here is the legislation that #Lansing has coming that will hurt the cannabis industry: *HB 5104: Grants the CRA permanent authority to pursue disciplinary actions and punitive damages against business owners even after their license has expired or they have exited the industry. *HB 5105 and HB 5107: These "tie-barred" bills (meaning both must pass to become law) reverse the voter-approved 2018 legalization initiative by reasserting cannabis as a controlled substance and introduces severe felony penalties for possession based on plant count or weight. It also rollbacks home-grow protections by replacing currently open-ended harvest storage with a strict 2.5 kg (approx. 5.5 lbs) cap and a 200-gram limit on concentrates. *HB 5106: Empowers the CRA to summarily suspend licenses—shutting businesses down immediately—if it deems conduct a threat to public health or safety, such as during records disputes. Critics argue this could lead to businesses being closed for years while contesting complaints in administrative reviews. *SB 597: Seeks to "stabilize" the market by limiting competition but will create regional monopolies. As of January 1, 2026, the CRA is prohibited from issuing new retailer licenses if a municipality already has one retailer per 5,000 residents. While intended to stop "market saturation," it risks hurting smaller towns like Kalkaska or Hazel Park that rely on cannabis tax revenue by preventing new businesses from replacing closed ones. By removing the 90-day deadline for the CRA to process licenses, the bill will leave applicants in bureaucratic limbo indefinitely. 🚨ACTION ALERT: Contact Your Lawmakers and Tell Them to Oppose HB5104, HB5105, HB5106, HB5107 and SB597 and Leave the Cannabis Industry Alone!
