Fed my last bale of hay this evening. That means grazing season starts tomorrow. The grass has just started growing. I would have liked to have another week worth of hay, but I do have one pasture with enough grass to graze now. That should buy enough time to let the other pastures grow some more. I have a confession to make, Nostr frens. I attended a conference at the state capitol Monday and Tuesday, and I did not book a hotel room for Monday night. Instead of paying $136 for a room, I went to a nearby conservation area and hammock camped for free. Then I bought myself $136 worth of more Bitcoin. I do not regret my decision. Of course, I could easily afford to pay for a room, but it was a beautiful night to be in the woods, my hammock was comfortable, and fiat-world hotel rooms are boring and not worth exchanging my time and labor for. Started the week with a scrap yard run. Just a load of junk I picked up around the farm and out of some old barns, but it was $116 dollars worth of metal. While I was driving through the scrap yard, I saw a Ford truck they were starting to break down, and it happened to have mirrors compatible with my truck. I've been driving around with a busted mirror for the last year, so for $50 I got a replacement driver side mirror assembly. Came home the other day to find this in my kitchen floor. In the sub zero temperatures, this calf was born and the cow apparently abandoned it. The calf showed up in our neighbor's yard. He claimed it wasn't his, nor did it belong to our neighbor to the north. He said the tracks came from our farm, and called my wife. She went and got it, brought him home and laid him in front of the fireplace to warm up. I was unable to find any clue as to which cow had the calf, so we have a bottle calf in the barn now. Never stop learning new skills. Over the past few weeks, I've been teaching myself leather working. As a knife guy and outdoorsman, I have many blades that need sheaths and several pieces of random gear that could use custom pouches. It tends to be time consuming and expensive to seek out the perfectly sized pouch or have custom sheaths made. Hence the decision to make things myself. These are just a few examples of what I've made so far.
