Exhibition Concept statement: 🎨 In Your Face my friends and other activists In Your Face is a portrait series about presence, defiance, and compassion. It brings together people whose faces, sometimes famous, sometimes activist friends of the artist, embody what it means to care actively and loudly. From the globally recognised to those working tirelessly on the front lines of change, these works explore the many faces of courage and conscience. Some are “in your face” as public figures, yet their activism is hidden in plain sight. Others are “in your face” through protest, direct action, and the daily labour of refusing injustice, insisting again and again, that another world is possible. The phrase plays with contradiction: the literal intensity of my painting style: Expressive, close-cropped faces that confront the viewer, alongside more elusive works where the image almost disappears into shadow. Activism, too, moves between visibility and silence, confrontation and grace. To be “in your face” is sometimes to shout in the streets, sometimes to stand one’s ground when it would be easier to turn away, but always challenging systems of oppression. Exhibited at The Blockwork Gallery , a grassroots community art space on an estate facing demolition, these portraits become part of a living act of resistance. We are sharing this powerful account from the American Friends Service Committee, documenting the conditions in Gaza City ahead of the latest IDF offensive. I'm writing this to you while starving. She writes to me from Gaza. A young woman, intelligent, early professional, recently engaged to her love. Her name is Serena. Good morning dear Lindsey, i can barely move and walk today, it has been 5 days and i am only eating soup, nothing else. So my body is not helping me anymore. She hoped to join the QUNO summer school in 2024, but she could not get out. No one could get out; 2+ million people trapped behind a seven-meter-high fence with barbed wire, military posts with sharpshooters and remote-control machine guns. A fence that trapped them under more bombs dropped by Israel than were dropped on London, Dresden and Hamburg combined during World War 2. And that statistic is a year old. Our bodies and the pain have become inseparable, and sickness remains an unrelenting part of daily life. With no medicine and no functioning hospitals, illness is ever-present, pressing on us without relief. Instead, she spoke virtually to the students gathered in Geneva. She spoke of her life, of her humanitarian work for the American Friends Service Committee, her childhood home now destroyed, her longing for life.

Change Shifters Collective is formed of members contributing their magic in many ways. With in our members projects we work in areas of art, community empowerment, emerging economies, recognition of the value of life, ecology and proposals for a better future. Our philosophy is rooted in mutual aid and people power. There are many cultural and institutional arenas. With their own customs and languages. Some have been created to work in tandem with each other. They have their own guidelines and protocols. If we can communicate in creative ways in making things better then we have at least the means amongst us to create costed, researched proposals to ensure that peoples lives are valued and respected and we move to live in greater harmony with each other and the earths biosphere. So far we do not have a base, the life of deep campaigning is transient. Having a base to work from and rest will increase capacity to focus and deliver. We are looking for contributors to get these endeavours properly funded. We will encourage the knowledge of bitcoin and it being utilised in creating an ecology of exploration and empowerment. The only real way of recalibrating the currency system are debt jubilees. It has been custom expressed in civilisations of old. The issue is that it belies the fact that it is indeed a customary language made up and expressed in human incentived actions. The betrayal people will realise about the material suffering and life shortening living conditions, and exploitation to boot. It was all unnecessary and held in conscious intent to maintain such harm for the rewards to those with access to the proceeds from the incentived activity.
