Me… learning Ayurveda out loud. Monthly conversations with vaidyas I really admire, asking the questions that never came up in class. If you’re curious about how Ayurveda can support your health today, let’s explore it together. I’m a holistic wellness counselor and I believe food is medicine — which is why I wrote a couple of cookbooks: The Essential Ayurvedic Cookbook - An introduction to Ayurveda and 200 recipes with variations for gluten free, dairy free, and carnivores. https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Ayurvedic-Cookbook-Recipes-Wellness/dp/0778805131 Essential Holiday Bakes - Gluten-free Artisanal Cookies & Cakes - https://yogawithlois.com/essential-holiday-bakes/
🎙️ Essential Ayurveda Talks – Episode 2: Returning to Ancient Healing is now live! In this episode, I’m joined by Vaidya Sunita Tarkunde, founder of the Houston Ayurveda Wellness Center. GM. ☕🫖 Ayurveda is about living in sync with the rythmms of nature. Sometimes you bend your routine to fit the day. Me=> commits to a healthy sleep schedule 🛌✨ Mother Nature=> 3am torrential rain, building-shaking thunder, lightning illuminating my bedroom ⚡⛈️💥 Me=> 👀 Me=>awake... guess I’ll practice pranayama to thunder. #Ayurveda #Dinacharya #RainySeason #RIPsleep #plebstr #yoga #Floridalife #coffeechain
GM Does anyone still eat breakfast? I usually do 2 meals a day--brunch and dinner...mornings are for exercise/yoga... Today, I had some leftover homemade gf cinnamon raisin bread so.... French toast for brunch 🤤 I made the bread in my dutch oven so it's round shaped...the slices were not super photogenic for plating...but it was delish. 👌 #foodstr #plebstr #foodismedicine image
GM. Doing some recipe research on soaking raisins in rum.... stumbled on this gem from a "website FAQ": Q: Are rum raisins suitable for children? A: As rum raisins are made by soaking raisins in rum, they do contain alcohol. Therefore, they are not recommended for children or individuals avoiding alcohol. Q: Can I use rum-soaked raisins as a topping for breakfast dishes? A: Absolutely! Sprinkle them on your oatmeal, granola, or yogurt to add a burst of flavor to your breakfast. TL;DR: Too boozy for toddlers, just right for grown-ups easing into spreadsheets. #foodstr #holidayrecipecreation #plebstr #boozy
Him: so what do you think of turmeric? Me: for what? Him: inflammation. I think I have inflammation and I heard turmeric is good. Me: { identifying with how Michael Saylor must feel explaining btc for the millionth time....} Depends on the root cause of the inflammation. Without identifying the root cause, it's like putting a bandaid on someone who is hemorraghing. Him: yeah. I don't think it did anything. Me: when you're ready to make diet and lifestyle changes, give me a call. Otherwise, you're just making supplement companies rich, under the illusion of healing.
Unlike Western/allopathic medicine that has many specialists, Ayurveda does not. Ayurveda treats the whole person and all systems and levels, not a specific organ. Even if an Ayurveda doctor specializes in a field (ie, opthamolgy), he will treat the whole person, body and mind, to address the root cause of the disease.. #ayurveda # holistichealing
Ayurveda says you become what you eat....so I'm turning into sunshine🌞, sorrel🌿, and serenity 🙂. Eating fresh. Living slow. Feeling whole. 🤸‍♀️ If you're in Palm Beach area, check out Naga Gardens -- family owned farm, where every visit brings a new seasonal surprise. #foodismedicine #ayurveda #plebstr #goodfoodgoodmood

You can’t fix a broken heart with core exercises. I was at a wedding this weekend, talking with a relative in her 80s (once vibrant and active... always playing tennis or sailing) who hasn’t been able to walk well since a fall last year (but no physical injuries). Me: “How did you fall? Were you feeling dizzy? Did you slip on ice? Any medications you might be taking? Her: “No.” Me: "Well what was the root cause?" Her: Smiled and shrugged …no answer. Me: "I think you fell because your alignment is off. Your upper body is hunched, shoulders wrapped forward…it looks like you’re protecting your heart.” Her: I’ve been doing lots of PT exercises for the past six months to strengthen my “core” and legs. Me: Try this exercise: roll your shoulders up, then back and down. Lift your heart and draw your shoulder blades down your back….like this (I demonstrated) She followed my lead and as she moved a smile appeared on her face… like a weight had been lifted. If she were my client, we would prioritize the heart center, utilizing yoga poses and pranayama. The body will fall into alignment, once the emotional holding is released. While the PT focused on her core, it missed her real injury, a broken heart. Her husband, tennis partner, and soulmate had passed a few years ago. Her posture said everything to anyone who took the time to notice. This is the difference between Ayurveda and other medical modalities (i.e., naturopathic, allopathic, homeopathic…)….all the scientific tests in the world will not be able to diagnose a broken heart. Ayurveda looks at the whole person (physical, emotional, and spiritual) when diagnosing. This holistic approach helps identify the root cause of imbalance, so treatment can actually heal, not just manage symptoms.
