USA Import tariffs: why not put 10.000% import tariffs on the world? Today I read that President Trump put import tariffs on the Netherlands, Denmark and other European countries, because thesent troops to Greenland. Why not put 10.000% import tariffs on the world? Lets go max. Stop imports completely. All imports from the whole world. Zero imports!! It would kill the USA economy instantly. You would lose your job. It would have secondary effects you could not image. When you put tariffs the people who pay these are USA businesses and citizens. These tariffs are paid at the border, by the one who ships the stuff. If I am a USA importer of say a German car of 100.000 usd, I, the USA importer have to pay 25% or 25.000 usd more. At the border. After it has been shipped. So what will happen is that : I either sell it and increase my price with 25.000 usd to sell it to wealthy US citizens or businesses. Or I take that 25.000 usd and my profit would be 25.000 usd less. I could pass 10.000 usd in the price to my consumer and hit my profit with15.000 usd. Whatever I do, my customers will demand less German cars and only THEN the German economy might be hit. Less demand of German cars. But I, a USA importee, pay the tariffs. Lets not kid ourselves about this! Now if my profits go down, do you think I will invest more in the USA? No way. I postpone all investments. So that new car dealer I was going to open in the USA to sellGerman cars is gone! All those USA employees I was going to hire in that dealership, the sales reps, the HR, the marketing, the accounting all USA citizens: gone. The electricity, the office equipment, the construction workers to build that car dealership are gone! I was planning to invest 5 million USD this year. I had my business plan ready with all my expenses after that investment. I was just about to signnthat mortgage of 5 million USD at a local USD bank. That bank was gling to get interest payments on that 15 year mortgage. 5%. Gone! I called the bank and closed everything. Do you start to see the indirect effects of that tariff? Looks great. But who is it hurting? The German car manufacturer is already looking at the BRICS to sell its cars. So less investments, less consumption, less imports. Y = C + I + G + E - M This is an economic identity, meaning it is true for all economies. Now suppose C declines, I declines and M also declines. But C and I decline more than M. The Y the economic growth will go down. So tariffs make the economy go down. If I go 10.000% on the world I am in a deep recession. So now suppose the USA economy has no imports. Nothimg produced outside enters the USA economy. Ever. 10.000% on all imports of the world. M is zero. Y = C + I + G + E How do you think the USA economy is going to look like? Imagine you have no cloths, no fruit, no oil, no machinery, no iphones. Nothimg imported. And you have wall street with all that debt, those stocks all financial services. Can you imagine a USA without any foreign imports? The reason USA imports all those stuff is that you can not make them yourself or the world can make it cheaper, faster or better than you. But Linkedin can cancel me anytime. So those followers and connects look great. But they are not "mine". I don't own anything. And I'm still happy. Jeff Booth says we should give our attention to the Bitcoin world. To open protocols. Because what we give our attention too, grows. So it seems crazy to give my attention to Linkedin. To follow anybody there. To engage in conversations there. So here is what I did: I extracted all my data from Linkedin. And I put it in a local folder. And I started analyzing it. My chats, my posts and my connections and followers. This move already is a first step. Then I did that also on Facebook and Instagram and planning to do that on Youtube. Extract everything and back them up. Next step is: be more here on Nostr. On Primal. Putting content here first and ultimately move completely to Nostr. Here I got my pub key and private key. If I don't like a client I can move. If I want to analyze my content I can do that in python. And nobody can cancel me. The only thing you can do is follow me or unfollow me. But you can not cancel me. It already feels a little more empowering. But I'm telling you honestly. It looks brave. But it also looks a little bit scary. Building websites and shops on Nostr. I have seen some shops on nostr. I think it is called shopstr. But the shops need to be different if you are helping people by providing online training. Imagine you are a digital coach and trainer like me. You want to: - build a following of people who don’t know you - then let them raise their hands and tast a little bit of your product and service (often raise your hands mean they subscribe by providing their name and email) - then you give them a taste of your services (often by sending only the people who subscribed the invitation to the webinar) - you hold a 45 minute webinar - in that webinar you paste a link to your sales page (often outside the webinar software , like a wordpress site) - when they land on that sales page they can pay (in wordpress it is done by plugins as woocommerce). This payment often goes through a payment provider (they process credit cards so you can receive money that goes to your bank account) - after payment your customers get in a private space where they see your videos of your course or program (this is often videos you have unlisted on youtube and share with them). This is the general flow. To get 50 new customers at 1% conversion you need to engage with 5000 new people at the top of your funnel. This system is used by many coaches, trainers and digital content creators. Nostr should be able to do this. We need a way to let people “raise their hands” for a specific content. The content creator - I - need a way to have the dms of all these people who raised their hands for my content. Say if I say AI and Automation is my content I need a way to simply dm all those people, say 5000 people on nostr that are interested in #aiandautomation. So on top of this primal user interface or maybe through python I need to create code that can dm all these people who maybe liked my content, I posted, specifically on this topic. Is that already available? Then I need a way to stream my content with OBS or Ecamm software (I use Ecamm) easily to my Nostr page. I have used Zapstream in the past. But I see I have to keep paying for zapstream to keep my videos up. What if I host my videos myself? How can I ensure my videos stay visible on Nostr? There needs to be a way so I can pull up a server that is up constantly. Next I have the webinars. I should be able to invite all those 5000 people who raised their hands a dm. I don’t need their emails. They only thing I need is sending them some content so they show up. They need to be able to unsubscribe from my content. So Nostr needs a way to send mass content to a list of people. It needs to directly end up in their dms. Is this already available? Then there is a private page on Nostr where I can hold my webinar. Only the people who got invited, because they raised their hands and were subscribed need to see that page. I don’t want to stream to a general page. So the url needs to be hidden. In that webinar on Nostr I would deliver my content about the program. All people clicking on that link to my sales page need to go to a sales page on nostr where they can buy my program. They should be able to zap say 997 usd and get access to the program. If they cannot zap they should be bale to pay with lightning wallets. After payment they get inside a secret room where they see my course say 6 modules during 6 weeks. Each module has more videos. This is private content. Hosted on nostr. During those 6 weeks we have coaching and training calls. There I can share my screen and people can talk. Something like Hivetalk (opensource) but on Nostr. The videos need to be recorded and available for the customers. THIS is a flow that will add value to digital content creators like me. This will be powerful and let us create outside the Youtube, Linkedin, Facebook social media channels. How do you start creating this? How do you build this on Nostr? The economics of oil say that it is going to take a lot of time to put Venezuela’s oil on the market. Curaçao has a refinery that needs 0.5 -1 billion usd of investments to upgrade. After watching this episode I tend to conclude that: - the business case of oil refinery on Curaçao is not going to be positive. - oil storage from Venezuela probably is not something feasible as the oil will not be soon drilled in Venezuela. What else can we do with the huge polluted terrain on Curaçao? Is it feasible to put solar power and batteries and mine Bitcoin there? The solar irradiation on Curaçao is high. Has anybody done the math regarding to minimg on solar power on different locations in the world? Is that business case more feasible than refining heavy crude oil on Curaçao? He was critical. He was maybe even furious!! He said this is a scam! All emotions. I die not expect this when I prepared the lesson! It was about the problems that Bitcoin solves. By lesson 5 this student learned: - that the USA created 4 trillion USD in kust 1-2 years. 40% more fiat currency - he saw the M2 money supy go steep upwards - he saw how many fiat money is created and the debt as percenatage of income of countries like USA, Japan, UK, Singapore. - the ranking of the most indepted countries in the world And he saw the website of WTF happened in 1971. The question: what is money pondered in his mind. What is hard money? What is cbdc? Are you saying they can link cbdc to my travel? To my social score? Is that why you showed me to use keet.io the peer to peer chat? nostr? But, but? A new Cypherpunk was born. If he could code he would have put all that energy, all that new insight into coding decentralized money. I realized that by lesson 5 of the My First Bitcoin, you can not unsee what you have seen!! He saw that just by adding some monopoly money to my friends - I played the Kura Piedra Bank again - and gave some extra 2000 USD fake money to my friend to show the Cantillion effect, while all other students had only 15 USD, that the bid of the Porsche went to straight 500 USD! Nobody could outbit my friend! My friemd was just one of the students. This exercise showed them, and the new Cypherpunk, that suddenly, the value of the fiat money you have is decreased when there is more fiat money created. Proof of Work for the My First Bitcoin project of BTC Curaçao Institute. In lesson 4 of the curriculum we talked about Fiat money. I continued with the Kura Piedra Bank (Stone Fence Bank), an imaginary bank I created in lesson 3. I showed how this bank can create 9 times its loan deposits in credit. A multiplier of 9. And if the hovernment decides to lower the fractional reserve requirement to 5% the bank can become more fragile by going 19X. Our students enjoyed this activity. My First Bitcoin is action based. Every lesson we start with a practical excersise. And students ask questions and we explain the topic at hand. It is good to see the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten lead in monetary research and organize such a conference. Caribbean economists also need to research what the Digital Asset Sector with Bitcoin as the new monetary layer means for the Caribbean, Curacao and Sibt Maarten. A 2,3 trillion USD market cap of Bitcoin is parger than all the economies of the Caribbean together. With the help of my AI and direct report of my company Island Wealth, I created an educational game for lesson 3 of the Mi Primer Bitcoin (My First Bitcoin) 10 week’s certificate. Students experience live the history of money. We have interactive exercises and we gamify the history. I introduced a King that clips some of the golden coins to pay for his soldiers. Students saw how difficult it was to barter with goods because there is no coincidence of wants. I have bread but I want fish, you have fish but you want a guitar. So no trade. But if we introduce spagetti as the general accepted good then trade is posible. But spagetti won’t last long. So we move to silver and gold. But when someone clips the coins and these clopped coins enter the market, like my students , the people lose trust. That is inflation. The coins buy less. You could continue the history of money with plastic exclusive cards, like the one of my fake bank- Kura Piedra means Stone Fence - and was one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Curacao - so I honor that name of the community where I was born- and know that with Bitcoin and believing in your dreams you can jump the stone fence of poverty . So now I use the same Kura Piedra to teach Bitcoin, and to make films that create memorable experiences and change tge lives of people. Watch my last film - Corporate Protocol.
