Drawing Bitcoin
One of the first challenges of this project was to understand and establish a scale for drawing blocks. I wanted to represent them at a scale and detail with high resolution that allowed them to be unique and comparable.
I wanted to express each transaction within a block and log scale emerged as one of the only ways to draw data with such wide ranges without too much abstraction.
Re-sized 1 btc to 150mm
this works nicely for now for the first 1,000,000 blocks at a 700 x 700 canvas size
First drawing captures the first 4 halving blocks as a comparative study;
210000 - 2012.11.28
420000 - 2016.07.09
630000 - 2020.05.11
840000 – 2024.02.20
The drawing shows an expected pull of transactions towards the centre as the mining reward decreases and the btc price surges.
Second drawing shows the mining reward as a layer on top showing the relationship between transaction ranges and reward.
Over the last couple of months, I've been developing a project that has reached a level of clarity where I can excitedly start to share…
I've been mapping bitcoin blocks, applying similar methodologies I would use when drafting architectural plans or landscapes. The project establishes a consistent visual language and scale that preserves data integrity, detail and resolution that allows block-to-block comparisons without excessive abstraction.
The aim of the work is to create and develop a bitcoin block cartography that explores ways to represent and understand bitcoin, blocks and its history.
I’ll start posting more about the project over the next couple of weeks and the various blocks that I’ve begun to map and compare.
Finally, I’d like to give a shout out to all the bitcoin creatives & artists that I’ve followed over the years who continue to create amazing work and who have inspired me to pursue this project.

« Ai is not going to save you, bitcoin is »
Why is it so clear to some that Ai is part of the future but Bitcoin is not….
Saylors framing of this is on point
“Honey, why is everything getting smaller but the same price?”
“I need to show you the dancing coffee bean video I watched last night, it explains everything”
What a time to be alive…

It’s been clear what Bitcoin is doing + what it’ll do in the future for anyone willing to do the work/ put ego aside.
I use it as a litmus test to understand the rigor of thinking/error correction in systems/people.
Currently results coming in hot and fast on both sides….
