This is a phenomenal piece articulating exactly what I was trying to explain the other day regarding “mainstream users” expectations for online earning. There’s this idea that once you “hit” viral or eligible to monetize on mainstream you all of a sudden are making cash. Absolutely not. Exhausting & exploitative, most of us are spending HOURS on their app doing full time jobs beside our full time jobs make pennies we can’t even access until they say we can & all of the content must be approved and pre censored. I’m not gonna lie I can’t help but giggle just a little bit because as I browse through here, I see a lot of Nostr/BTC and advanced tech people making all these comments about “mainstream users don’t want this from devs and Nostr!!! They want this instead!!” and me, a mainstream user/big time newb being like “actually…that’s exactly what we want and we don’t want what you said like at all…?” and it makes me realize every time how HUUUUUGE the gap is.
