I find that frequent solo karaoke is good for the soul.

I'm an author and developer who lives in Japan.
Sometimes there are painful days that eat our souls. Sometimes there are days we think “This is exactly how I enjoy a day” Often one follows the other. Yesterday painful, today a delight. How much does the one depend on the other?
With water comes the ability to clean moldy old fridge and decades of accurate kitchen grease on fixtures and walls. Light electrical work, heavy furniture moving, rubbish sorting, and hauling. Busy day. Good day. BaoHouse coming together.
Finally got a plumber to come to BaoHouse. I had to get forceful to make it happen. Ridiculous to be forced to aggression to get someone to do their job. Insight about something. Billy Crystal was right. Attraction means no friendship.
A few drinks with some Otaru friends last night at our local German brewery. They have a Saturday night, all you can drink for two hours. My head this morning tells me we got more than our money’s worth. Expat friends but fulltimers here.

I had an insight today. I work really effing hard to earn the things I want. Then other people invariably just walk up and take them away before they’re mine. I’m done working hard for anything I don’t already have. I have all I need.
Ran into a random situation where the price was double for foreigners today. I get it, but still pretty annoying. I walked away. There are too many restaurants to choose from to go to one that sees me as less than just another human being.
Today I got such a great haircut in Sapporo. Haircut, shave, skincare treatment, brows/nose/ear hair, massage - even some face laser something or other. $20. Such a nice experience. Then sake from a gachapon bubble machine. Nice day!

Japanese Costco has bulgogi bakes and cantaloupe smoothie. Yum. The trip there led to a kite festival, a lighthouse, and this guy. Later I drove in the mountains and soaked in outdoor onsen with a bunch of nude Japanese strangers. Sunday!
Today a beautiful 93-year-old kimono maker came to BaoHouse and looked over all the kimono that came with the house. I wish I had understood all the things she said. Luckily my friend was there and is Japanese so she did. Nice kimono.
I’ve been sorting through clothing and dishes and pottery. Some real treasures came with Baohouse. Picture below are ac few of the kimono. There are many more. It’s surprisingly hard to get a plumber to fix my pipes so I can get the water
BaoHouse is a lot of work. Hopefully I can get the plumbing fixed before it’s time to go. The gardens at Satoshi Manor are turned. Some planting done. Parsley survived winter! Cabbage too. With luck there will be food to harvest In Sept.
Both houses survived my absence well. My preparations were good. Unfortunately, I’ve noted now that the toilet is cracked in the (new) old house. Something I didn’t see before. Pushed the old moldy tatami out the window. Hello neighbors!
Since moving into my house in Otaru, most of my trips away have been 14-45 days long. This time was 73 days. It feels longer. It's a long time to live out of a bag but it has been remarkably comfortable. The next trip will be ~82 days
Yesterday was a spontaneous adventure. Unexpected, certainly. It involved an otaku convention, two cafes, an actress, a singer, a flight attendant, and a judo wrestler, a flat tire on a public holiday, Dubai chocolate cake, and old canals.
