People who think bitchat was a flash in the pan are looking at it with a high time preference imo.
Sometimes open source tech takes years to find it's full market fit.
Think about the components required for Bitcoin to be built or the fact that Chaumian e-cash is making a comeback decades later.
The open source tech stack doesn't grow linearly, but good ideas stick around.

When I joined nostr I had been waiting for something like it to be invented for years. At the time I was genuinely shocked to see how many bitcoiners chose to stay on centralized platforms.
I understand their positions now, but I couldn't be happier with my choice to allocate my time here instead of other places.
Is the tech polished and easy to use? Mostly no, but I love it and I stay because nostr aligns with my values.
The connections and relationships I've built through nostr, while small in number, are profound in their depth.
