Today someone showed me a feature on snapchat that allows you to search for public posts geographically. It's interesting because you're able to zoom in on places like Iran, Gaza Strip and see what life is like there. This can be a good check on the usual propaganda outlets. For example, Iran is far more developed than many in the west realize and I didn't see any posts about the ongoing conflict. The conditions in Gaza were unsurprisingly terrible, but there are some beautiful families doing their best. I thought to myself about what they might be able to do with bitcoin if I sent them some. I also wondered if there was some way to teach them about nostr. I'm going to reach out to one of these families and see where it goes. We don't speak the same language, but that doesn't matter anymore. If the tech we are building is useful at all, maybe it will be useful to people who are in bad situations, but still have internet access. I hope you have a blessed Sunday 🙏

Big time bubble vibes. It seems to me that the recent LLM craze will plateau in its advancements, just like every other technology that does not rely on network effects. Considering smartphones for example, there was a time when each iteration was significant and the benefits of paying for the most recent phone far outweighed the costs. Phone tech seems to have plateaued about ten years ago. The main thing keeping it alive now is planned obsolescence. Eventually the difference between frontier LLMs and older models will become negligable. Then gradually, the difference between enterprise and open source will do the same. This could be accelerated dramatically by another deepseek drop, but it will happen eventually even without one. Many business applications of "AI" will continue to require bleeding edge models to compete, but for most applications the bottleneck will return to human capital capable of maximizing the clever utilization of the tech, rather than the tech itself. This can be seen across every technological advancement for hundreds of years. I'm not sure how long this process will take, but one day the ROI on training new LLMs will run out and the bubble will pop. Many busy-work jobs will be decimated in the process. View quoted note →
