They were bullshit charges from the start.
Nether of them should have taken pleas for crimes they didn't commit. That was a massive mistake for them & for every open source developer.
Yes - legislation through enforcement is a huge govt overreach. How do you fight it? By taking the uncomfortable path, by taking it to court. Found guilty? Appeal it & keep fighting.
Yes it will be uncomfortable, scary & painful, but it won't be forever.
If you're lawfully in the right, it's your duty as a free human to fight the unlawful behaviour.
Peaceful expression (code) & seeking privacy is not a crime, it's everyone's God given right.
And before you come at me with the expenses, it's now far easier to defend yourself with the help of LLMs. I quietly didn't donate a sat to Keonne & William primarily because they rolled over. If they'd fought the bullshit like hodlonought did, I would have happily donated. I know that was civil & has different risks but the value for me is in the precedent.
I'm not hating on anyone, it was probably some crazy shit to go through. I would love them to be free. People need to become more aware of the agreements they're making with the state though. This will happen more & more.
