Yo hi! I usually post things about linguistics, science, biology, environmental science, health, and recently, some stuff on numbers. I'm an advocate for freedom of communication I'm a bunch of things but I mainly focus on environmental science, training people into becoming scientists, and an array of aspects about communication. A strong future for humanity and life depends on good community and good communication. I accidentally became a linguist, and I've made a few alphabets, my latest one is called NewEng and it does a good job of encapsulating both English pronunciation & its accents, and English etymology.

Hot thought (Cos I literally just had it now) What if the reason that social media always becomes an absolute bane Is Because Our feeds of posts are 1D ? It becomes an endless tirade of scrolling through a list of items that no longer pique our interest as once before Perhaps this is because it's nothing like real life. A 2D pane of items would make a big difference to our interactions. Firstly, we can see spatially instead of.. listically. Secondly, UI can be designed completely differently. People panes with faces and micro profiles floating around, grouped by recent post topic, by profile tags, by region. Online panes. Post panes, posts in bubbles floating around, linked by topics. A 2.5D interface would make it even more interactive, without becoming like virtual reality. I don't think anyone really wants actual full immersion virtual reality. A 2.5D UI could allow basic avatar navigation. I'm really only thinking as much as a simple Pokémon style exploration, nothing exciting or graphically intensive, just enough to have some contextual navigation. The problems that keep arising on platforms like these (standard, 1D feeds) is that the VAST majority of us never get many followers, so we don't get much reach, we don't get to interact with many other people. If we all just follow anyone and everyone, the feed turns into unusable digital noise. But if our INTERFACE were arranged differently, perhaps it would be better… We could discover each other spatially, in that, spaces allow more dimensions, and dimensions are the axes to contain variation. Thus, following and finding people to have these conversations with would be much simpler and more organic. There must be a reason that our world evolved in 3 spatial dimensions! One and two just weren't enough :)

Are you using any of these platforms? Have you heard of OpenVibe? It's a wonderful app that aggregates four open-web social networks, 3 of which are unrelated to Big Tech, and one of those is fundamentally uncensorable! OpenVibe makes it easy to crosspost and to view all your feeds 💜 image

What if I just become a gamer livestreamer just like right now. Is that still a thing? Can I stream myself being an absolute n00b and talk about random/political shit at the same time? Is there a market for this

The latest Windows 11 update has broken the energy saver button in the quick access panel. If your laptop is set to automatically switch to energy saver, then after it does so, you have to open the power settings, disable and re-enable energy saver. Then the quick access toggle will work again. image

Is it possible to modernize X.org? Something has always felt a bit off about Wayland. I can't express what I mean but maybe someone else can

A five day work week is time theft. There are more things to do in this life than work. Leisure time? Sure. Is two days enough time for resting and then doing something for leisure? That's debatable. But, There are more things to do in this life than work and play. Organise. Uprise. Protect, heal, grow. Build. With the five day work week, we have time to do none of these things — unless they are profitable. We have been shoehorned into slaving away for the company, the corporation, the governments, the military. And people will call you lazy if you don't work 5 or even 6 days. People will laugh at you for wanting extra time for your own life. Companies will refuse your requests for an extra day off — "obviously!!", you laugh — and if you take the day regardless, you'll be fired, and nobody would be surprised. Who's taking care of the health of the community? Who's keeping the governments and corporations in check? Who's looking after any of the things that don't make money? NGOs maybe, non-profits maybe. But they need funding, they need support, they need a structure and a system to keep them afloat through difficult times. So they become inherently beholden to their financers. And they will fail if the economic and/or political climate is unfavourable. Five days is theft of freedom. Not simply personal freedom, but freedom of self governance, of community, of community health. They are keeping Us busy & exhausted on purpose.

First, put your mind on the vertex of Collective. The world, societies, communities, used to have all, most or many people focussed on the collective: community health, social structure, guidance & steering, resources, land management, etc. Now... All or most of our attention is focussed elsewhere. Not focussed — diverted, distracted. Think of the elders, who perhaps were training and guiding the youth. Now, most elders are whiling away their days distracted by tiktok. We are in a dearth of attention and, although we're starting to feel the effects, the heaviest consequences won't be seen until it's much too late.

So is any laptop manufacturer ever gonna take the initiative to put all ports on the left edge so that wires don't get in the way of the right handed mouse user? And also produce left handed versions? This can't be that complicated an idea can it

A final draft of a new font "dots n lines" (title WIP) that supports English and NewEng (mine, also title WIP) and will support most Latin derivative alphabets. NewEng Alphabet consists of 41 letters: a æ b c ç d e f φ þ ð g ȝ h ƕ i j k ʞ l m n и ŋ o œ p q r s ʃ t ч u ȣ v w ꝏ x y z image

Does anyone have a 2FA app that syncs and uses zero trust encryption? I've heard that Authy is essentially compromised, and I don't like it anyway cos it's hard af to get my keys out. (Also apparently they automatically invalidate keys when you remove them from the app??)

proton trials day .. 8? idk proton drive sync is shite fam after adding a file to the proton drive folder, it takes a good minute or so before it *starts* uploading... then opening proton drive on my other computer, it says "last synced X days ago", i.e. the last time that a file was synced. and... it STILL saied that after a bunch more minutes there's NO "sync now" button there's no way to make it sync sooner it was maybe 5 minutes before the new files were even listed this is weird.

Scaffolding. We, as a species, really gotta stop thinking that learners are stupid. They — we — can handle anything we have thrown at us. All we need is exposure to a concept, to information, to ideas. The data will enter, we start to process it, and next time we meet it, it'll make more sense.

listen up, if you don't allow politics to influence your choices of products, services, platforms and software, then you are directly supporting your political enemies.
