Yo hi! I usually post things about linguistics, science, biology, environmental science, health, and recently, some stuff on numbers. I'm an advocate for freedom of communication
I'm a bunch of things but I mainly focus on environmental science, training people into becoming scientists, and an array of aspects about communication. A strong future for humanity and life depends on good community and good communication. I accidentally became a linguist, and I've made a few alphabets, my latest one is called NewEng and it does a good job of encapsulating both English pronunciation & its accents, and English etymology.
To resolve things in this world, we *must* stop viewing them as separate.
Most big issues are underpinned by the same things as small issues.
Social norms form larger scale issues and situations. Nothing is separate.
Tackling a small problem is no less important than tackling a large problem.
Unexpected realisation of Friday:
When someone says they're sick, it's *always* true.
"don't fall for their tricks, they're trying to divide you"
idk fam, I'm pretty fine with dividing ourselves away from fascists and genocidaires
like, that seems fine. Perhaps the purpose of the universe existing is to separate out the genocidal parts of itself
testing out nostrbook.com, a nostr site for publishing articles in ebooks
here's my article, cross-posted from substack, about the process of creativity & inspiration through serendipitous and random encounters

wait I posted a long-form article via nostrmo but it hasn't appeared on my profile viewed through primal. I think I still don't understand nostr well enough
The fastest way to learn a skill that you want to be stable and want to keep, is the slowest way.
Artists!:
I want to draw freehand, maps, diagrams, doodles, illustrations.
I want to draw in vector primarily, and raster as an option (not required)
I want a freehand pen tool, and I don't enjoy Inkscape's pens.
What can I use?

We at Tuta would never build ...

"it's a psyop"
"Ugh don't be such a conspiracy theorist"
Uh
EVERYTHING is a psyop
Do you not understand yet that EVERYTHING that's happening is as a result of human beliefs
Literally
Everything
(Except for the full-natty weather events, and asteroids, and space weather)
A country is a psychological operation.
Never forget that.
Didn't think this needed to be said but, if you're riding a motorbike bike and approaching a pedestrian, aim behind them, obviously
Take note that online safety according to governments is not the same as online safety for disruptors and activists
Hot thought
(Cos I literally just had it now)
What if the reason that social media always becomes an absolute bane
Is
Because
Our feeds of posts are
1D
?
It becomes an endless tirade of scrolling through a list of items that no longer pique our interest as once before
Perhaps this is because it's nothing like real life.
A 2D pane of items would make a big difference to our interactions.
Firstly, we can see spatially instead of.. listically.
Secondly, UI can be designed completely differently. People panes with faces and micro profiles floating around, grouped by recent post topic, by profile tags, by region. Online panes. Post panes, posts in bubbles floating around, linked by topics.
A 2.5D interface would make it even more interactive, without becoming like virtual reality. I don't think anyone really wants actual full immersion virtual reality. A 2.5D UI could allow basic avatar navigation. I'm really only thinking as much as a simple Pokémon style exploration, nothing exciting or graphically intensive, just enough to have some contextual navigation.
The problems that keep arising on platforms like these (standard, 1D feeds) is that the VAST majority of us never get many followers, so we don't get much reach, we don't get to interact with many other people.
If we all just follow anyone and everyone, the feed turns into unusable digital noise.
But if our INTERFACE were arranged differently, perhaps it would be better… We could discover each other spatially, in that, spaces allow more dimensions, and dimensions are the axes to contain variation. Thus, following and finding people to have these conversations with would be much simpler and more organic.
There must be a reason that our world evolved in 3 spatial dimensions! One and two just weren't enough :)
