driving a truck to Florida myself was a mistake not because i am a bad driver but because other drivers are bad in other words i was always going to make it without incident even though i had no training and never driven a commercial truck before because i'm a 140 IQ genius but Penske had to assume that i am the average moron who will probably crash their truck ... so the insane amount of money i was charged for the rental had nothing to do with the actual operating costs of that vehicle but more with the probability that like a moron i will put gas into the diesel tank or worse ... i failed to consider this in my initial analysis when i simply assumed that renting a truck will be cheaper than shipping a container. NEVER EVER FUCKING ASSUME indeed it SEEMED cheaper ... until you add the cost of diesel fuel, hotels and most importantly INSURANCE once you add those shipping a container becomes cheaper than driving a Penske truck yourself ... but i'm glad i did it for the unique experience. would have it no other way. my favorite part was having to do a U-Turn on a narrow street Austin Powers style it happened already when i was returning the truck to Penske having completed the trip, but instead of using the main entrance to community i chose the back entrance which was narrower and i realized i wasn't going to make it there so i had to do a U-Turn ... i don't think anybody on that road expected me to make it ... but i made it LOL ... after going back and forth like 10 times hitting the curbs each time ... that said, it makes no sense to do it again. but i might do it again anyway. we'll see. it will come down to 2 factors: 1 - the weather 2 - if the PODS can come through on the date i am ready to move i will not consider any other shipping container companies than PODS. nor will i consider U-Haul. it's PODS or Penske.
